
Recent professional guidance, such as SAS 99, Consideration of
Fraud in a Financial Statement Audit, and Public Company
Accounting Oversight Board Auditing Standard 2, has brought
more attention to the auditor's responsibility to uncover the
warning signs of fraud, but there is still some ambiguity about
where the auditor's responsibility ends and the fraud
examiner's begins.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has issued 69 charges
against various accounting firms and partners for violation of
provision of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act that requires registration
with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

landed on top. "This year accountants became sexy," say the
folks at BusinessWeek. We've certainly come a distance from the
old images of men in white shirts with their sleeves rolled up,
wearing green visors to keep off the glare from the light bulb
hanging overhead while they pound on the keys of an adding
machine and pore over ledgers into the night. Accounting has
