Do you feel uncomfortable making conversation in either social
or business situations? We've done a little digging here at
AccountingWEB and have come up with some sure-fire conversation
starters and tips for keeping the conversation going.

Companies with audited GAAP financial statements should take
note that the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island, in a case
that has attracted national attention, ruled that certain
sensitive "tax accrual work papers" are protected from
disclosure by the work-product privilege and, accordingly, are
not subject to discovery requests from the IRS.

The House of Representatives passed major reforms last week in the form of amending the Patent Reform Act. Hailed as the most significant change to the U.S. patent system in 50 years, the bill still faces an uphill climb as the Senate is working on its own version of patent legislation, and President Bush is seen as being lukewarm on the bill.

for four years when you're struggling to make the mortgage
payment each month? And that's just the cost of one child -
what if you have two or more?

Accounting honors students give views on job market Test your tax skills with this year's ABA law student tax challenge Ernst & Young launches campus video competition
Have you ever found yourself wondering what to say in a crowd,
or in a conversation with someone you don't know very well?
It's possible that even those who seem the most adept in social
situations stumble for words from time to time. We're doing our
best to help with this problem in this week's Earful: "The art
of making small talk." Meanwhile, for those who aren't shy,
Ernst & Young is launching a video competition as part of its
recruiting plan, wherein college students are asked to make a
short video depicting their vision of their future career. We
can't wait to see the results - and who knows - it might give
us something to talk about!
