In addition to choosing the right professional mover, the American Moving and Storage Association wants to remind consumers and businesses it is vital to have adequate liability coverage for the household and office goods being moved. Under federal law, all interstate moving companies are required to assume liability for the value of the goods they transport. State laws, however, supersede the federal law for moves occurring entirely within one state. While the overwhelming majority of moves don't result in loss or damage claims, adequate liability insurance is a must when it does happen.
