CREDIT CARD WARRANTIES MAY COVER BATTERIES

Consumers who have experienced damage to a computer from Sony batteries subject to recall may have protection if they purchased the computer using a credit card with Purchase Security coverage.

"If you purchased your computer with a credit card that has Purchase Security or Warranty Manager Service coverage, it's possible the extended warranties could cover faulty batteries," Chris McCullough, founder of Creditcardsuperstar.com an online credit card shopping service states.

"Credit card companies typically require that you notify them within 60 days of a product failure," McCullough warns, cautioning consumer to file claims in a timely manner. "If you fail to notify them within 60 days, they can deny your claim."

Coverage is usually limited to $10,000 per receipt and other documentation is required. Also, only valid and reasonable repairs made at the manufacturer's authorized repair facility are covered.
