We want convenience any way we can get it, right? A new story out of Las Vegas puts the "C" in convenience when it comes to travel.New technology from Certified Airline Passenger Services now enables passengers to drop their bags, check-in and select airline seats--all in the comfort of their Las Vegas hotel amidst the bells and clangs of slot machines.Vegas is experimenting with concept, and participating airlines include America West, Continental, Delta, Southwest and Sun Country. There is a $6 per person charge for the service.

Microsoft Puts 'Stock' in its Stock

Microsoft will be in a position to initiate a buy-back of its own stock next week, when a six-month waiting period ends following the purchase of Visio software by Microsoft. Analysts agree that this is a positive sign for Microsoft, which in the last year has been plagued by many troubles with regulators and antitrust.Microsoft bought the Visio program in January 2000 for $1.5 billion in stock. Visio is a program used primarily for drawings and diagrams, organizational charts, flow charts, and site maps.

Excel Tip: Quickly Print Designated Areas of a Worksheet

Set up your various print ranges first by using your mouse to select a range, then assign a name to the range. Assign a range name by choosing Insert, Name, Define from the menu. In the Names in workbook field, enter the name you want to use to identify this selected range. You cannot use spaces in your range name. Click OK to complete the process. Assign other named ranges in your worksheet in the same manner.

Is Netscape a Peeping Tom?

America Online Inc.’s subsidiary, Netscape, is being accused by New York attorneys of illegally monitoring downloads using SmartDownload software. The result of the claim against Netscape’s illegal spying on users is the filing of suit in federal court. The attorneys have asked that the legal claim be granted class action status.Apparently users who have downloaded information from the internet have identifiable information transmitted back to Netscape. From there, information is compiled and profiles can be created of a customer’s downloads.

Accountants Fight Back Against SEC Proposed Ruling

The Securities and Exchange Commission may find that it has a fight on its hands in the form of the AICPA, KPMG, Arthur Andersen and Deloitte & Touche. The SEC recently proposed a rule limiting the scope of consulting services audit firms can offer their clients. The SEC claims that maintaining independence with an audit client where a consulting relationship also exists is not possible.Concerned that the SEC proposal threatens various revenue generating consulting services in the accounting industry, representatives from the AICPA and three of the Big Five plan to dispute the proposal.
