Deloitte Consulting announced today that it has formed an alliance with CFOWeb.com, the financial services industry's first full-service Internet portal site for CFOs, fund managers, and corporate treasury operations. The strategic alliance is aimed at providing financial institutions with seamless integration to CFOWeb.com.Deloitte Consulting will work with investment banks and financial services providers to develop comprehensive e-commerce strategies to integrate with CFOWeb.com.

The Sage Group, owners of Sage and its popular line of accounting software like Acuity, Peachtree and BusinessWorks, has announced it will buy Best Software. The transaction is expected to be final in February in this cash deal worth $35 per share or $445 million.Best is known throughout accounting circles for its line of human resources, fixed asset and payroll software.

Merger & acquisition (M&A) activity hit record levels in 1999. According to a forecast by the Transaction Services group of PricewaterhousCoopers, M&A activity could increase even more dramatically in 2000.Several factors will drive the growth. First, there’s a lot of money out in the market that will make M&As easy. There is an unprecedented supply of capital right now. Second, in business circles, a lack of growth will be punished – growth will become the new indicator of success for companies.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has hit Informix, a database software firm in Menlo Park, CA, with administrative sanctions related to fraud and the performance of previous company executives.Between 1994 and 1997, the SEC discovered that Informix had falsly reported increased revenues of $295 million and earnings of $244 million during the three-year period.Also involved in the case is Ernst & Young, who was the auditor at the time.
