Can accountants build it? Yes, they can! Helping Habitat in NC

When you think of accountants at work, images of calculators and sharpened pencils spring to mind. But employees at Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP traded in the tools of the trade for hammers and nails when they volunteered to help build a Habitat for Humanity house in Raleigh, NC."A lot of our staff members had participated in Habitat through their church or school but never through our firm," said Cherry, Bekaert & Holland Partner Sheila Ahler.

Sunburned and tired, BBD volunteers would do it again

Back from a demanding and sometimes difficult five-day service project in Saylersville, Kentucky, all 21 volunteers from Briggs Bunting & Dougherty LLP (BBD) in Philadelphia would do it again if they had the chance. For Barbara Kelly, head of recruiting and director of human resources, "It was the most physically challenging and humbling experience of my life. At the end of the day we would get together for dinner and swap stories about our day. It was a kind of reality check.

The Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) recently announced the installment of its 2009-2010 Board of Directors.
