Mississippi accounting firms announce merger

Natchez, MI-based Switzer, Hopkins and Mange has announced it is morging with Silas Simmons LLP, also a Natchez-based accounting firm. Going forward, the combined firms will do business as Silas Simmons LLP and will operate out of the existing Silas Simmons offices.Silas Simmons partner Sim Mosby said."Their role will be the same as their current role, our role will be the same as our current role, but it will all be under the auspices of Silas Simmons," Silas Simmons partner Sim Mosby was quoted as saying in the Natchez Democrat.

PwC donates $1 million to University of Alabama accounting program

Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has pledged a $1 million donation to the University of Alabama to support accounting education at its Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration.The donation is intended to help the university improve its staff, offer more services to accounting majors, and decrease the shortage within specialty accounting practices, including auditing, tax, and teaching professions.Out of 187 students nationwide expected to receive doctoral degrees in accounting this year, only 22 expressed interest in teaching in those two areas, according to the pr

Tennessee accounting firm announces merger

Tennessee accounting firm Rodefer Moss & Co, PLLC is merging with the Indiana and Kentucky accounting firm of Melhiser Endres Tucker, CPAs, P.C., creating a company with seven offices in three states. The merged firm will operate under the Rodefer Moss name. The transition into a single company is effective September 1, 2008. Rodefer Moss has Tennessee offices in Knoxville, Nashville, Greeneville and Kingsport. Melhiser Endres Tucker has two Indiana locations, in New Albany and Corydon, and an office in Louisville, Kentucky.

AICPA CITP credential committee chair announced

James C. Bourke, CPA, CITP, WithumSmith+Brown (WS+B), Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, was recently selected and approved by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to serve as the chair of its Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) Credential Committee for the upcoming 2008-2009 year. Bourke has served as an active member on the committee for the past three years. "I am looking forward to taking the Chair position," said Bourke.

FEI announces election of 2008-2009 board of directors

Financial Executives International (FEI), the preeminent association for financial executives, has announced the election of a new slate of executive officers for the year effective immediately.Joseph G. DiLorenzo, of Humarock, Massachusetts and a managing officer at Plymouth Rock Studios in Plymouth, Massachusetts, was elected to hold the position of FEI's national chair, after serving as the vice chair for the previous year. Minnesota accounting firm announces merger

Rochester, MN-based regional accounting and financial services firm Wolter & Raak has announced its merger with Bruce L. Swanson, CPA, also of Rochester.Wolter & Raak, has offices in St. Charles, Winona and Rochester. The merger allows Wolter & Raak to enhance its auditing practice, according to a report in the Rochester Post-Bulletin. Swanson's current practice is reportedly made up of about 60 percent audits.
