Deloitte multi-service business fuels projected revenue growth to more than $27 billion

Deloitte Global CEO Jim Quigley announced today that projected aggregate member firm revenue for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in FY2008 would exceed $27 billion, representing another year of double digit growth for the global professional services organization. Reported revenues in FY2007 were $23.1 billion. Marking the end of his first full year as Global CEO, Quigley said, "We are delighted with our performance, which I believe is a reflection of the quality of our people and their everyday commitment to client service excellence.

Marcum & Kliegman LLP merges with forensic accounting firm

Marcum & Kliegman LLP, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, has announced its merger with RosenfarbWinters LLC, the largest forensic accounting firm in the New York metropolitan area. As a result of the merger, RosenfarbWinters is changing its name to M&K Rosenfarb LLC (MKR). In spite of an overall downturn in the economy and unfavorable job numbers, the accounting industry is still growing. "There is absolutely no shortage of available positions at M&K," states Marcum & Kliegman's Managing Partner Jeffrey M. Weiner.

AICPA names recipients of 2007 Public Service Award

Michael D. Shmerling, CPA (inactive), of Nashville, TN, and Schenck Business Solutions of Appleton, WI, each received the 2007 Public Service Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Shmerling received the individual award. Schenck Business Solutions earned the firm recognition award. Olivia Kirtley, chair of the AICPA Awards Committee, presented both awards last week at the Spring meeting of the Institute's governing Council in Amelia Island, FL.

Deloitte survey shows U.S. companies need more IFRS preparation and education

A new survey by Deloitte indicates that U.S. companies' interest in adopting International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is steadily increasing. Thirty percent of CFOs and other senior finance professionals surveyed said they would consider adopting IFRS, if given a choice by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) within the next three years.

Highlights of the 2008 Public Accounting Report's Survey of National Firms

The Public Accounting Report's National Survey of Firms shows, overall, business was good, and not just for the Big Four but also for the next tier of firms. The 2008 survey looked at the Big Four firms and at six leading non-Big Four firms (Grant Thornton, BDO Seidman, RSM McGladrey, Reznick Group, Crowe, and CBIZ & Mayer Hoffman McCann). For the third consecutive year, the PAR Survey revealed double digit composite growth –10.6 percent - for 2008, though it's also the second year in a row that the rate has dipped.

Women of color in accounting feel lack of connection

Women of color in accounting, including African-American, Asian and Latina women, feel less included in the work environment than whites, are less likely than whites to perceive accountability in their firms' diversity practices, and believe that work-life practices at their firms lack racial sensitivity, a study sponsored by Catalyst has found. The study, Women of Color in Accounting, written by Katherine Giscombe is based on interviews with 1,424 respondents from the top 20 revenue-generating firms and is the second in Catalyst's Women of Color in Professional Services Series.

Three Mississippi accounting firms combine with BKD, LLP

Three Jackson, MS-based accounting firms are combining with Springfield, MO-based BKD, LLP, one of the 10 largest CPA and advisory firms in the United States. BKD Managing Partner Neal D.
