Accounting firm golf outing raises $200K for charitable organizations for children

The 16th annual Golf Invitational, held by J.H. Cohn LLP, one of the largest independent accounting and consulting firms in the Northeast, raised a record $200,000 for The Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, two of the firm's Cohn for Kids affiliated charities. The outing, held at the Hudson National Golf Club in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. on Tuesday, donated 100 percent of its proceeds to charities dedicated to improving the lives of children in need. To date, more than $1 million has been raised by the J.H. Cohn Foundation's efforts.

Jackson Hewitt under fire

The federal government has broadened the scope of an investigation into charges that certain franchisees of Jackson Hewitt Tax Services Inc. helped prepare fraudulent tax returns during the 2006 tax filing season. More than 125 offices of the company have been accused by the Justice Department of knowingly filing false tax returns and claiming refunds that resulted from the use of phony W-2 forms and fictitious deductions. The returns were filed on behalf of middle- and low-income people.
