Ernst & Young, LLP (EY) isn’t just targeting Internet start-ups and viable companies, they also are offering a unique tool for kids and parents. The latest offering from the Big 5 firm is a web site called Moneyopolis.
Designed in kid-appealing lime green and royal blue and complete with a “Bart Simpson” look-alike mascot, the site is geared toward helping kids hone financial planning and mathematical skills. The site is specifically targeted for kiddoes in grades six through eight. EY focused on this critical age group because studies show that beginning in the 7th grade, U.S. children’s math skills fall behind those of their counterparts in other countries.
Kids navigating through Moneyopolis are encouraged to start thinking about getting an after-school job, saving for college and setting long-term goals, while at the same time learning about the importance of community volunteer work. The site features a library, a pop-up calculator, and a help guide. Parents can get in on the action with the “For Teachers” feature that provides lesson plans.
Although this is a community service provided by a Big 5 firm, there’s no reason why local firms wouldn’t want to link to this beneficial tool.
