John Dunleavy, who led both the California CPA Education Foundation and the California Society of CPAs, has died. He was 68.
A resident of Redwood City, Calif., Dunleavy died on Aug. 5, 2009, of a heart attack. He was born on Dec. 6, 1940, in Scranton, Pa.
Dunleavy served as executive director of the California CPA Education Foundation from 1993 to 2006. He also served as interim chief executive officer of both CalCPA and the Education Foundation in 2000 and again in 2004, when CalCPA was searching for permanent CEOs.
In 2007, Dunleavy received CalCPA's Distinguished Service Award, which is presented to an individual who has provided long and distinguished service to the accounting profession, to CalCPA or to the community.
Dunleavy became executive director of the Education Foundation in 1993 after having served CalCPA from 1980 as director of conferences and then as head of its member relations operations.
