Joseph F. Hurley, CPA is a certified public accountant with over 20 years of experience in providing tax-planning services to individuals, corporations, and tax-exempt organizations. As a partner at Bonadio & Co., LLP, a 100-person CPA firm headquartered in Pittsford, New York, Joe has had overall responsibility for the firm’s delivery of tax services to its clients. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Financial Planning Association, and serves on the Financial Planning Committee of the New York State Society of CPAs.
Joe found his way into the world of accounting and taxes after graduating with degrees in economics and psychology magna cum laude in 1978 from Williams College, a small liberal arts college in western Massachusetts.
Joe discovered Section 529 in the wake of the 1997 Taxpayer Relief Act and immediately recognized it as one of the most remarkable tax provisions in the Internal Revenue Code and worthy of a book-writing effort.
With the support of his firm, Joe founded SavingForCollege.com LLC in May 2000.
Joe’s family has first hand experience in saving and paying for higher education costs. His wife Ginny is a registered nurse who has returned to school to obtain a master’s degree in nursing, and together they are saving for the future college costs of their two children age 14 and 10. They have accounts in 529 plans in 18 different states (the substantial number not being recommended to others but helpful for research purposes).
Feel free to contact Joe with your comments or suggestions.
