PwC Consulting to Change Its Name to 'Monday'

PwC Consulting has announced its new name. When the consulting arm separates from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the new firm will be known as Monday.

PwC Consulting filed for an initial public offering (IPO) for as much as $1 billion in May 2002. In preparation for the IPO, Greg Brenneman was named chief executive officer (CEO) on June 2, 2002 and former Dun & Bradstreet senior executive Frank Sowinski was named chief financial and administrative officer on June 6, 2002.

In announcing the new name, Mr. Brenneman said, "The PricewaterhouseCoopers brand has given us a great heritage. Our new name – Monday – is exactly what we want it to be as we create our new business: a real word, concise, recognizable, global, and the right fit for a company that works hard to deliver results."

"Monday is a new identity," added Mr. Brenneman, "on which to build our company's future. It will have meaning and stand for something – real people, real experience, real business – and that means real results."

The firm has established a new Web site to introduce its new logos. To view the logo and related visual identity elements, visit www.IntroducingMonday.com.

What does "Monday" stand for...

It seems to me that a brand is supposed to associate a company with the values it stands for. Monday is not recognizable in the marketplace as anything that is associated with PWC's Consulting and therefore seems a desperate attempt to find a catchy name. It doesn't describe their services or their company values. I'd go back to the drawing board -- a good company deserves a better name.

Monday Blues

Monday, Monday. I like it not.I think the name is simply rot. What will accountants think of next? This name has left me very vexed. .......Monday - new name time.Accountants scramble for fame.Hide same old same old.

New name, "Monday," is stupid

PWC's new name, "Monday," is stupid, but no more stupid than some company which named itself Avaya in the last couple of years.

I guess if "TGI Friday's" is supposed to be a pleasant place to go, "Monday" is probably supposed to evoke something unpleasant.

I guess those guys wanted to be ANYTHING but an accounting firm with a recognizable name! Oh, well.

Monday problems ahead

Does this mean Monday Night Football will have to change its name to First Workday of the Week Night Football?

Maybe the Same PR Firm The AICPA Uses Assisted PWC

I am assuming with a name like "Monday" that it just might be the same Marketing/Pulbic Relations Firm that came up with the name Cognitor......I will say though, that who knows if this will be a winner....Who would have thought that YAHOO would become a well known brand!

Makes you think?

You must be joking!

This can't be for real! Why would such a fine company as PWC do something so idiotic unless it was to get us talking....well, they have succeeded! But I don't see how the consulting arm will with such a moronic name.

This is a joke

This has got to be a joke. Right?

My next career will be in corporate branding

I think my next career will be in corporate brand identity. It seems to be an easy way to make a lot of money as long as there are big consulting firms willing to spend millions on naming their company the first day of the week. My question is how can Monday be trademarked and branded anyway?

"Monday", the name can't register in a trademark!!!

"Monday" is a common name and can't use in a trademark. You think so, don't you?

STUPID NAME

Monday?? Give me a break!!I bet the CEO's name is Tuesday Holiday

These people are morons

Makes no sense to trash a brand name. The people they have advising them must be morons. Datsun did this in 1983. Changed their name to Nissan. They were the #1 import car at that time. After the name change, dropped permanently to #3. How many years and millions of dollars did it take for KPMG to get recognition as a brand after trashing Peat Marwick?

Manic Monday

Another musical commentary. Perhaps the Bangle's hit with the lyrics "just another manic Monday, I wish it was Sunday...", which I think was written by the artist formerly known as Prince. Somehow, that seems fitting!

Did they pay someone to come up with the name?

Did they give any thought to this name? I can just hear a CFO saying: "We have job bids from Accenture, Cap Gemini, and (tee hee hee) Monday." About anything else would've been better. It will be a continuing joke.

Do not think the name will be taken seriously

The name may be recognized globally, but my initial reaction is that it will not be taken seriously for a consulting company; maybe an Ad agency. Time will tell; I assume that heavy marketing was in the development of the name; but it still leaves me with the question, Why this name?

Monday, Monday, Can't trust that day

I understand that Monday has a global identity, but the name also has negative connotations. A lot of people don't like Mondays! (Unfortunately, a song about a serial killer who didn't like Mondays comes to mind as well as the Mama & the Papa's song quoted above). Baby boomers will remember! I think there may have been better choices.

"Monday, Monday, can't trust that day"

Perhaps the wrong jingle, courtesy of the Mamas and Papas. Perhaps the jingle to be used by all their competitors.

Because "Hump Day" wasn't available?

...and to think that some marketing firm earned tens of thousands of dollars for such an innovative name. "Good luck" in trying to develop brand awareness. Based on the viewable "Monday" ads online, the firm will need more than innovation to do so.

Come on - who likes Monday?!

Let me see a show of hands of those individuals that Monday is their favorite day of the week.

I for one am not a huge fan of Mondays and why in the world would you name a firm Monday. They are dreaded by all but you know they are inevitable - sounds like a good name for an audit or tax practice!

Just thought I would throw my two cents into the well.

Laughable

I know they paid a lot of money for their new name, but Monday? On Monday mornings I'm wishing it's Saturday again.

Monday?

An appropriate name for consultants I guess -- "Monday Morning Quarterbacks"

Monday?

I had to look at my calendar to make sure it was not April 1st.

Maybe they'll use the Mamas and Papas tune for their TV commericials.

Maybe I'm too traditional but I'm not sure what their name has to do with consulting. Maybe I should have paid more attention in those marketing classes in college.

Geesh...

What a name; Monday, the second day of the week that everybody dislikes???

They need a new name.

If Monday is the best they can come up with, I do not think they will be able to get much consulting work. It certainly does not lead me to see them as visionaries.

Let's Give It A Chance

While at first I have to admit the selectionof the name "Monday" doesn't appear to communicate any magic as it relates to PWC'sconsulting division,I am going to withholdfinal judgement until I see how they plan to use and tie the name and it's meaning to theirconsulting division. You have to admit ,the name has Global Recognition. Let's wait and seehow they tie it all together before we startblasting it and tearing it down.

Same team that named "Cognitor"?

Monday? Is that the best they can come up with? Who came up with that brilliant flash - the team that put "Cognitor" together? I've got an idea: How about if E&Y Consulting becomes "Tuesday", Deloitte Consulting becomes "Wednesday" KPMG Consulting becomes "Thursday" and Andersen Consulting becomes "Friday" - then we'll be able to keep track of all of them and they can all have an equal shot at all the lucrative consulting deals out there, depending on which day of the week the bidding is due. Hopefully the name will stick otherwise the next headline will be "Monday Mourning."
