Contribute Your Expertise to The New CPA Exam

In conjunction with the conversion to a computerized Uniform CPA Examination, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is http://www.aicpa.org/members/div/examiner/1_7_02_notice.htm " target="_blank">looking for volunteers who can help with writing and/or reviewing portions of the exam.

The computerized exam will include simulations of case-based situations that will aid in assessing a CPA candidate's knowledge, skills, and readiness to practice accounting.

Volunteers are needed both as writers of these simulations and as reviewers of the written product.

  • Writers will take two case models that have been already developed by experts in the field and write exam content for the simulations. AICPA staff members will create two variations of each simulation and the writer will then review the variations. The time commitment for this project is estimated to be 8-10 hours for writing and 2-3 hours for review. The timetable for completion is late April/early May 2002 for writing and late May/early June 2002 for review. A second wave of this project will occur near the end of 2002.

  • Reviewers will analyze and refine the simulations, preparing them for the computerized exam. Reviewers will face a longer time commitment, which will include attendance at two 2-day meetings, one in early July 2002 and the other in January 2003. Reviewers will receive approximately 24 simulations for review prior to attending the meetings, and such review is estimated to take approximately 20 hours. All expenses for attending the meetings will be reimbursed.
