The 3 C’s – Common Sense, Courtesy, Communication

Back to blog homepage for: The HR Connection

Ahhh the old question: where has common sense gone? Is it really gone?

In this day and age of modern technology, we are able to communicate and stay in touch with each other 24/7, with a plethora of ways in which to do so: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, BlackBerries, etc.

With all the new channels of communication, the basic human need for common sense and courtesy has not been outdated.

Face time with people is very important as this is how relationships are formed. There is nothing better than being able to meet with a client or vendor and have that one on one time. It lays the foundation and assists in building the bond over time.

Please do your homework when meeting with a client to discuss their needs, particularly if you have dealt with this client previously. It’s simple common sense and courtesy. It also works the other way when a vendor is meeting you to discuss your needs. Case in point: You have a meeting with a vendor to review some work that needs to be done. The vendor shows you items with the old logo, even though materials have been created with the new logo. How would you feel? Probably not very confident in this vendor.

Taking the time and thinking things through really goes a long way with people. I know I appreciate it. Don’t you? You can’t always count on your client or vendor to hang in there with you just for “ole times sake”.
