Robert Redford's Sense of Order

Back to blog homepage for: Gail Perry - Voice of the Editor

I normally do not care what Robert Redford or other celebrities have to say about economic policy, foreign affairs or pretty much anything else of importance, but something he recently spouted caught my attention. Redford stated: "Do you think the earth was created by an accountant? No! The earth was created by the combustion of a creative explosion. Fire and chaos are what started everything. Then order came on top of that."

In these turbulent times of high unemployment rates, Conficker, bailouts, and more...a compliment emerged from Robert Redford's postulation. The marrying of the words "accountants" and "order" is a remarkable, unintended compliment. We'll take it, Sundance Kid!

What I Think

Redford stated: "Do you think the earth was created by an accountant? No! The earth was created by the combustion of a creative explosion. Fire and chaos are what started everything. Then order came on top of that."

The expertise of accountants is well known. But the rest of his statement isn’t even intelligent!

Where can anyone find a “Creative Explosion?” Explosions do not create, they destroy.

The Second Law of Physics says that the universe goes from order to disorder, or heat to loss of heat.

All anyone has to do is look around and see that all life is extremely complicated!!

Look at the laws of physics; the design of the human eye; the not-so-simple cell; look at a leaf under a microscope;

Then, examine how the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly; the birth of a baby from a zygote; and how about the incredible complex information we refer to as DNA. Who wrote this code? Certainly not some “Creative Explosion!”

It is unintelligent to believe that “Fire & Chaos” started everything!!

In science, whenever you see something that has a design, you have to conclude there was a designer!

Robert Redford believes in a “Creative Explosion” & “Fire & Chaos” not because of any evidence but he wants to believe it.

It’s a belief or better a “religion” because it certainly isn’t science.

Thanks for giving someone a chance to express their opinion & state some facts!

I'll take it

My clients count on me to maintain order. Redford and other celebrities who think they are God's gift to the world should just shut up.
