By Rob Nance, Publisher - A recent letter to the editor in my local newspaper was centered around how the government should “tax everything bad for us.” How do you feel about this?
I’m rather mixed on this issue. On the one hand, the feeling of the government sending an underlying message of “eat this, don’t drink that” rubs me the wrong way. Government intrusion, over the course of history, has not really proven to be a winning concept. Then again, if people ate better and we transformed into a healthier society--which we desperately need in the U.S.--would it be worth the price of Uncle Sam grabbing that Big Mac from our hands?
