Pennsylvanians will recognize a CPA for outstanding community service efforts

Nominations are being sought for Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (PICPA) 2009 Distinguished Public Service Award. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 21.

Since 1981, PICPA annually recognizes a Pennsylvania certified public accountant who is a community service leader, a passionate volunteer, and an advocate for worthwhile causes. This is PICPA's top honor.

The winner is chosen by a panel of judges from across the state, and will be honored at the Institute's annual meeting and conference in June. The winner will also be featured in the Pennsylvania CPA Journal and be nominated for American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) public service award. Nominations for the 2009 PICPA Distinguished Public Service Award can be made online.

Past winners include Richard L. Kramer, CPA, who with the help of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Jaycees, founded Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bridge; Raymond C. Keller, CPA, of Carlisle, who served on the Pennsylvania Veterans Commission and helped raise several million dollars to develop the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial; and Harry K. Sickler Jr., CPA, of Tyrone, who orchestrated an economic revival in his community.
