Tired eyes

At the end of each day I end up with tired eyes. I use a Dell laptop. Please tell me if there is a friendlier screen to the eyes.

Help for tired eyes

To reduce strain on your eyes while you're looking at a monitor for several hours there are several things you can do.

1. Use an LCD (flat screen) monitor. These do not have the glass coverings of the older CRT monitors and therefore do not have hardly any glare.

2. Place your monitor where there is not bright light shining on it (ex: not across from an open window). The bright light makes it harder for your eyes to distinguish the sunlight from the lights on the computer screen.

3. Increase your resolution (in Windows right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Then go to Settings and drag the screen resolution to the largest setting where you can still read everything). Lower resolutions give you larger images and text but the clarity is poorer and therefore your eyes are having to constantly refocus. Spend some time finding the best balance for you.

4. Increase the refresh rate, in the same screen as above hit Advanced and then Monitor. If you have your monitor on a low refresh rate, then that is how many times a second your computer is refreshing - and how many times a second your eyes have to refocus. You can't see it but it does strain your eyes over time. A higher refresh rate lets your eyes grab a more continuous image stream (more like a TV) instead of having to process several individual snapshots.

Those tips can help make any monitor more friendly, if you are planning to buy a new monitor go to an electronics store where they have several monitors setup with the same image. Look for a monitor with a high resolution (1024 x 768 and up) and a high refresh rate (over 60Hz). Look for a crisp and sharp image with no blurry or fuzzy areas. Finally just like you should get up and stretch your legs, let your eyes rest periodically. Every few hours close your eyes for 5 to 10 seconds to let them rest throughout the day. You can also check with an optometrist to make sure you don't need glasses/contacts as blurry vision can contribute to eye strain.

Tired eyes

Catherine,Thanks a lot for your answer. You are an angel. I will follow your advise.

try this

Katherine is right. all of her advises can help you reduce strained eyes. the only thing i do when i feel my eyes are strained is to reduce or increase the contrast of my monitor. there should be a button on your computer keyboard or some kind of setting somewhere in windows where you can increase or decrease your monitor's brightness. when it's at night, i reduce the brightness of my screen as it hits my eyes with too much brightness but when it's daylight i increase the brightness of my screen to see better. i hope this little trick can help you too.

Thanks

Thank you Luis
