Election Watch: Cindy McCain releases partial tax information

The presidential campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain has released the top two pages of Cindy McCain's 2006 income tax return. Only two weeks ago, John McCain's wife vowed she would never make her tax information public.

The tax returns show that Mrs. McCain, who files her taxes separately from her husband, paid more than $1.7 million in federal income taxes and reported nearly $570,000 in itemized deductions.

Mrs. McCain's tax return shows nearly $350,000 in interest and dividend income, about $4.5 million in income from partnerships, trusts, rental real estate, and S corporations, and nearly $750,000 in income from capital gains. Mrs. McCain is the chairman of the board of Hensley & Co., the nation's third largest wholesaler of Anheuser-Busch products.
