New AGA blog will address government accountability and transparency

The Association of Government Accountants (AGA), has introduced the AGA Weblog, a first-of-its-kind addition to the government and taxpayer blogosphere.

The blog aims to bring state, local and federal government financial managers into discussions about issues, solutions, and priorities aimed at making the government more fiscally transparent. A variety of government financial management leaders that include federal chief financial officers and state/local auditors and comptrollers will lead daily discussions.

"It is our hope that this blog will promote wider government accountability and transparency through daily discussions. AGA is focused on developing the best new thinking and practices in government accountability, however, it is not enough for us to simply provide information," said Relmond P. Van Daniker, AGA executive director. "We must encourage a two-way conversation that will allow us to receive public input on everything we do. That is one of the reasons for this blog. We hope it will allow conversations to develop between AGA, the public and government financial management practitioners that are useful to all."

Upcoming guests include:

  • Wendy Payne, CGFM, executive director, Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board

  • Joe Kull, CGFM, CPA, director of federal practice, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

  • Billy Morehead, Ph.D., CGFM, CPA, chair, Division of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems and Finance, - Delta State University

  • Dave Bennett, CGFM, CPA, assistant county mayor/finance director, Blount County (TN) Government
