Factors Facing the BV Profession

Back to blog homepage for: BV Girl

By Eva Lang - Things never stay the same for long. That is certainly true in the world of business valuation. What factors are affecting the valuation landscape today? According to Kevin R. Yeanoplos, CPA/ABV, Chair of the AICPA ABV Credential Committee, they include:

- Fair value measurement requirements
- AICPA issuance of its first valuation standard, SSVS No. 1
- The push for convergence of international valuation standards
- The convergence of international financial reporting standards through IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) from the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB)
- Requirements under the Pension Protection Act
- Increased knowledge among business owners and the public about valuation
- The evolution of valuation from a niche to the ‘umbrella’ over numerous valuation subspecialties (e.g., IP damages)

The pace of change is challenging but that is what makes the profession so interesting. - Eva Lang
