First Study Into Key Authentication Market Published

More tax stamps (also known as banderols, excise stamps, duty stamps or tax seals) are produced each year than any other security printed item except banknotes. They are employed by many governments around the world as the 'weapon of choice' to secure the valuable revenue which is derived from customs and excise duty on tobacco and alcohol. The stamps act as both a record of payment and as a barrier to the distribution of counterfeit products.

Despite the opportunities that tax stamps provide for governments to collect revenues, and for suppliers in providing these governments with the tools necessary to do so, there has never been an authoritative report on the subject.

One company, Reconnaissance International, has addressed this oversight with the publication of Tax Stamps: A Technical Study and Market Report. This Study is to be the definitive source of data and analysis on the worldwide tax stamp market for tobacco and alcohol. The 100 page report is due to be published in early spring of 2007 and will provide insight into how governments can develop effective tax revenue collection programs through the use of tax stamps, and also information on how suppliers of components, products and systems can both move forward the market for tax stamps, and benefit from the growing opportunities these provide.

The Study will supply market size figures, the development and history of tax stamps, and examine the trends and future developments. Case studies are also included, as well as a listing of the tax stamp issuers and producers in every country that uses them. Also examined and analyzed in the Study are the factors driving the proliferation of tax stamps, the stakeholders which determine their success, the different formats and methods of production, application and distribution, the key players in the industry and the market opportunities.

Some of the largest contracts by volume have been provided by this market, for security printers and suppliers of authentication technologies, including components such as substances, OVDs inks and taggants and, increasingly is providing an opportunity for suppliers of numbering and coding technologies accompanied by track and trace systems.

The case studies in the Report will include demonstrations of the increase in revenues that can result form using the authentication technologies and systems-providing essential data for any supplying producer or producer hoping to supply this market.

Tax Stamps will be distributed free of charge, http://www.reconnaissance-intl.com, to all government excise tax departments and tax stamp specifiers, thanks to the support of publication sponsors Authentix, FractureCode, Sun Chemical, KBA GIORI, Luminescense and Drent Goebel. Other information on costs and discounts for multiple or advance copies are available by contacting Reconnaissance International.
