Workers' Comp Costs Spiraling

In the United States, employers spend $80 billion a year on workers' compensation and despite significant rate reductions from the 2003 Florida reforms, rises continue in the state's workers' comp premiums and medical costs. In order to help employers manage these costs, the Council on Education in Management announced the 3rd annual Florida Workers' Comp Forum, to be held February 21-22, 2007, in the Tampa Bay area.

The 2003 Florida reform were to align the system and help reduce rates, but the costs are still rising. The reason the reform is not having the desired effect could be attributed to the growth in the state, which means more employees to hire and more workers' comp issues to manage.

"The Florida Workers' Comp Forum helps attendees find new ideas for improvement through the connections they make and best practices they share with other professional," says Council Director of Product Development Tom Schroeder. "It also offers the chance to interact with leading workers' comp suppliers who will showcase innovative solutions and provide practical advice on controlling workers' comp costs."

The Forum will give straight answers to Florida employers, provided by industry experts who will help the employers to devise a strategy to lower the comp costs of workers' and enhance the current programs. Experts from the insurance, legal and administrative and heath care fields will be included as presenters.

Scheduled presenters include:

Representative Dennis Ross
Florida House of Representatives

Cynthia McCormick
Director of Claims Management and Business Strategies
Walt Disney World Co.
2007 Florida Workers' Comp Forum Chair

Rafael Gonzalez
Partner
Barrs, Williamson, Stolberg. Townsend & Gonzalez, P.A.
2007 Florida Workers' Comp Forum Co-chair.

The Florida Forum will provide many opportunities to meet and network with colleagues who also face workers' comp issues, as well as industry experts. Top organizations in Florida will present sound tactics that have proven successful in their comp programs.

The Council has provided high-quality employment law, workers' comp. and HR training to human resource and other business professionals across the country for over thirty years. Delegates who have attended the programs number over one million.
