Female executives make up 40 percent of business travelers, and in an effort to find ways to cater to this expanded audience, hotels, airlines and other service businesses are instituting many changes to traditional services that have, for years, been geared to men.
According to a survey released in September by New York University and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, female executives want and desire more services amenities. At the top of the list is more responsive service.
Hospitality and Leisure Analyst Cheryl Boyer of PricewaterhouseCoopers says women are more perceptive of extra touches in a room, and will continue frequenting hotels that cater to their needs.
Examples new "library" hotel lounges, where women can relax without feeling apprehensive in public meeting places like bars or lobby lounges. Delta Airlines has implemented a new travel site called Executive Woman's Travel Network-designed just for female travelers-with travel tips and articles by female authors.
Security is another service issue within hotels; many front desks, for example, are now asking women if they would like a room by the elevator rather than one further down the hall.
