Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C., celebrates 50th anniversary
This year marks the 50th year in operation for the Washington, D.C.-area public accounting firm of Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C.
Five decades following the firm's inception, Swart, Lalande & Associates maintains its position as a leading CPA firm in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Earlier this year, the Washington Business Journal ranked the firm 36th on its list of the area's top accounting firms in its 2010 edition of the Book of Lists.
"Fifty years is an extraordinary accomplishment for any firm in our industry," said Paul D. Burke, CPA, managing shareholder of Swart, Lalande & Associates. "Our success and longevity are attributable to the governing values on which we were established, as well as our dedicated professionals and support staff who strive to provide the highest quality service to our clients each and every day."
Swart, Lalande & Associates was founded as a sole proprietorship in 1960 by John F. Swart, Jr. He was joined by Luke J. Lalande approximately two years later. The firm changed names and entities on several occasions over the years before arriving at its present form as Swart, Lalande & Associates, P.C. Swart continues to be an inspiration to the firm today.
"The founder of this firm was highly skilled in many areas of public accounting, and we are proud to have maintained that high level of expertise and diversity," said Burke. "We are always looking to grow our practice and for new opportunities in different niches."

Voice of the Editor
Which isn’t completely true. I mean, occasionally I drop by when I manage to sneak out of the nonstop frat party over at Going Concern, but I’m mostly a wallflower over there. I’m happy to say that I’ve been given express permission (or explicit orders, if you like) to wander over here to AccountingWEB more often.
Why is that, you might ask? My job is to replace the irreplaceable Gail Perry as Editor-in-Chief. What does that mean? I don’t really know! I think it’ll be fun getting a feel for things, throwing in my own thoughts here and there, and listening to the discussions you’re having about the accounting profession.
