Going Concern Embraces Nation's Obsessions with Brackets to Determine the Coolest Accounting Firm

Columbus, OH (March 25, 2011) - Going Concern, the largest online tabloid serving and dishing on international and domestic accounting firms, announces Going Concern March Madness: The Coolest Accounting Firm. The field was chosen after a long deliberative process based on the prestige rankings determined by Vault. Going Concern is relying on a highly active readership to crown the winner of the coolest accounting firm. We fully anticipate that the winning firm will be flooded with applications based on this achievement (or perhaps widespread mockery).

Early results are in and all of the Big 4 were sent home with their spreadsheets between their legs. Heavy favorites Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC all surprisingly bowed out in the first round. The tournament upsets have left the door open for the rest of the field to become the Fonzie favorites.  Some firms have taken notice and ownership over the madness with The Reznick Group even soliciting its Indian office to help stuff the ballot box.

Caleb Newquist, Going Concern Editor and preeminent bracketologist, commented on his creation, "The Going Concern March Madness: The Coolest Accounting Firm is not so much about which accounting firm is the coolest as it is about our obsession with brackets. If you place something in them (like say, an accounting firm), place seeds by the firm's name and tell people to pick a winner, they predictably will go bonkers for it."

Second round voting is well underway and results of which firms are final four bound will be announced on Going Concern over the weekend of March 26-27th.  The winner will be announced similarly but with a little extra fan-fare on or around April 1st.

Voice of the Editor
Results of a new survey show that most employees (61%) who receive a satisfactory benefits package from their employers are likely to have a strong sense of loyalty to those employers. Does that mean that providing good benefits is a good way to ensure employee loyalty (certainly a concern in an iffy job market), or is there a deeper meaning?
