CalCPA honors Gary Capata with public service award

For services to his community, the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) has presented Gary Capata with its Public Service Award for 2010.

A Laguna Niguel, CA-based sole practitioner, Capata is highly active in his community. He has been on the Laguna Niguel city council since 2004 and served as mayor in 2007. He is the mayor pro tem for 2010.

CalCPA annually presents the PSA to one of its members with a record of commitment to public service through participation in charitable, governmental, or volunteer work that significantly affects the community, state, or nation.

In addition to his duties on the city council, Capata is active in several civic organizations. He is a past president of both the Rotary and Lions clubs of Laguna Niguel. He also is a past president of the local chamber of commerce. Currently, Capata is president of the Saddleback College Foundation board of governors.

A CPA for more than 30 years, Capata also serves on the Ocean Institute board of directors and the Orange County Fire Authority board.
