Toktumi, Inc., the company behind the calling app Line2, recently announced that the backgrounding-enabled version of Line2, Version 2.4, has been approved by Apple and is available on iTunes to new and existing customers.
The arrival of version 2.4 enables customers to receive calls on their Line2 number even when they are running other apps. Now they can be sure to never miss a call, even if they don't have cell reception.
"The arrival of iOS4 and the approval of Line2 version 2.4 is a huge breakthrough for the Line2 application," said Peter Sisson, founder and CEO of Toktumi. "Backgrounding is the feature that our customers have been waiting for. With backgrounding, Line2 subscribers that don't have cell reception or are trying to reduce their cell minutes can always get their calls, even if they are using another application, listening to music, or playing a game on their iPhone or iPod Touch."
Anyone with an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or a third-generation iPod Touch will be able to run Line2 in the background after upgrading to iOS4, and will be able to do the same on the iPad when iOS4 for iPad launches later this year. As the only dual mode VoIP/cellular calling app in the world, Line2 lets users make and receive calls over VoIP when Wi-Fi or 3G data are available, or cellular when VoIP is not available, all using the same number. Line2 VoIP calls offer superior sound quality while saving customers money by reducing their cell minutes.
Line2 detects the best available network based on customer preferences and places and receives calls over that network automatically. Advanced VoIP calling features include call waiting, call transfer, and conferences for up to 20 people - all without burning a single cellular minute. Wi-Fi call quality is better than cellular with Line2, and Wi-Fi calls between two Line2 customers use 16-kHz HD audio for crystal clear sound quality that is stunning to experience.
As part of a Fourth of July promotion, Line 2 will be available as a free download in the App Store for the first time, and, as before, comes with a 30-day free trial that allows customers to experience all of its features before deciding to sign up.
After that, the service costs $14.95/month for unlimited US/Canada calling, international calling starting at $0.02/minute, and advanced calling features such as simulring, voicemail by e-mail, and auto attendant.
