I’ve been doing quite a bit of consulting with other accounting professionals and QuickBooks ProAdvisors on how to make the transition to an online, or remote, practice. I wanted a way to easily document some of the sessions so that my clients could have a recording, and so that I could edit and put some short clips on StacyK.net.
I looked at a number of applications, both for mobile devices, mac and PC, and what I ended up choosing was Oovoo.
I loved the name to start, and wasn’t disappointed when I tried it out. It connects very easily to FaceBook, and the interface is what I liked the best. The screens of both callers are side by side. (You can have up to 12, but I’ve just been using it for one on one sessions). This was exactly what I wanted – not a picture in picture or the format of Google Hangouts (which I also love, but not for recorded, one on one sessions). I was being very picky about what I wanted to put up on my website.
Once you sign up for Oovoo, you can do audio, video or chat connections with other users. The ability to record easily and get the recordings in a common video format was a plus. The fact that it was free? I forgot to mention that was a MAJOR point; I couldn’t very well ask my clients to pay for an application just so we could have a video conference to do a session for which they were already paying me.
I haven’t had the chance to use the app on a mobile device, nor have I seen a client using the mobile app either, but from what I’ve seen, it looks good. I prefer to use the desktop PC in my office – it gives me a chance to get a better camera angle. I always feel like video calls with my iphone or ipad are nothing but crazy angles that give a great view of up my nose!
