Whether you are a small, mid-size or large regional firm, the months of September thru early November represent terrific opportunities for hosting events. These can be niche specific, focused on general business issues or offer a workshop format that covers a unique topic, such as a new tax regulation or pronouncement. Whatever the topic or platform, bringing people into your office, adding value, and demonstrating your capabilities, represent some of the best marketing and relationship building tactics available to you.
At our firm, we host about 30 events each year, and the "buzz' they create in the community, and the relationships we build as a result, are priceless.
While some parts of the country enjoy year-round good weather, most of us struggle through the winter months. With summer being traditional 'vacation' season, many firms focus on the early to late fall as the ideal time to gain exposure with their target market.
If you are going to host events this fall, begin right now. The earlier you get on the calendar, the more likely you are to attract a quality crowd. I try to work backwards, allowing about 40-50 days for the save the date; then with one month to go, I mail or e-mail the invitation; with three weeks to go, we send an e-mail reminder. With two weeks to go, we make personal calls to key participants. The day before the event, we send reminder e-mails.
This might sound like a good amount of effort, but the results are worth it! So get started!
