It’s hard to believe another year has passed by so quickly. Where does the time go? As we sit back and reflect on the past year, our family (even the kooky ones) and friends top the “things to be thankful for” list. As we forge into the new year with some tough economic times ahead, we find comfort in knowing we are not alone, and we will all get through this together.
At the start of every new year, we make the all important “resolutions list” of everything we plan to accomplish. All with good intentions, but how far do we really get though? Perhaps instead of a year long list, break it down into smaller monthly “resolutions” that are easily attainable. Trying using the SMART goal setting technique. It can work just as well with “resolutions”, as it does with work related goals that you may be setting. Ask yourself if your “resolutions” are:
Perhaps you need to establish a better work-life balance. Running a business, no matter what size, is not an easy task. We fall into the same old pattern of needing to do it all because no one else can. Delegate. It’s ok. Decide to let someone else do some of the tasks for a change. Delegation is the key to a healthy work-life balance.
Network and build those relationships. New contacts are formed…ideas are exchanged…old ideas revisited. The dialogue with others is really the best way to promote your business, as well as learn something new while you’re at it. Making an effort to be a part of a group will revitalize you and your business.
These are just a couple of examples, as everyone’s “resolutions” are different. Only you will know what you are looking to accomplish in ’09. A fresh start to a new year.
