A Plan for 2011 - How is Your Competition Doing?

 It’s November 1st.  Where did the summer go?  And now, fall is almost entirely behind you.

At this time of year you should be implementing the steps you outlined a few months ago at your annual partner planning retreat.
 
  • Remember those steps that are intended to move your firm forward?
  • Remember those steps that will rocket you off of the plateau you have been stuck on?
  • Remember those steps that will get everybody, partners and staff, “on the same page?”
 
Many accountants think that strategic planning is about “getting everyone on the same page.”  The process is really a search for ways to give you a competitive advantage.  It is a set of actions that will make your firm’s services more valuable to clients than the services of your competitors.
 
The most important documentation coming out of your planning retreat is the action commitments, meaning, who will do what by when.
 
You haven’t officially done any planning?  You have been too busy to formulate a plan?  Take action today! You still have a couple of months (and most firms still have time in January) to take action.  Identify the most pressing challenges (even just 1 or 2) and get busy. Don’t let another year slip by and find yourself facing the same issues in May, 2011 that you faced in May, 2010.
