In continuing my occasional series on the milestones of this busy season (see 3/7 and 5/7, respectively), I really only have one thought on my mind today.

A couple of days ago I picked up what is, for me at least, a rather challenging 1040.  Met with the client who told me he really like working with his prior CPA, but that the prior CPA was having health problems and he needed someone local anyway.  I spoke to the prior CPA and told him I hoped he was on the mend.

His response:  his doctor says he is overstressed from his work load and he needs to pull back a bit.

Every CPA I talk to at other firms are all griping about how the workload and the crunch of busy season gets worse every year.  Personally, I'm still bothered that Congress didn't finalize things until late December, which slowed so many of us on getting going this season.

This is the though on my mind:  Why do we do this to ourselves?  Why aren't our trade associations more active in doing something to make it easier to spread the work?  And even if that succeeded, why are there CPAs out there who will act to sabotage this?

Hope everyone makes it to the end of the season successfully and with their health intact.  (Ok I guess that counts as a separate thought).
