The Great New York Soda Tax

New York City tried to tax sugary drinks as a health measure. There was a lot of opposition--some said it was anti-business--and eventually the court ruled the health department had overstepped its authority. That still leaves the question of whether taxes in the service of social policy ultimately are a good idea. Any thoughts?
