Drinkin' and Marketin' Don't Mix

Back to blog homepage for: Rob Nance
We've all been witness to this scene: you're at a business function amongst peers, competitors and clients, when you spot someone who has had too much to drink. I'm all for having a couple of drinks, but there's a time and place to toe the straight line--and a business social event is definitely such a place, in my opinion. CPA Allan Boress has penned a great composition on the Bloggers Crew section of AccountingWEB. Do you agree with his "Drinkin' and Marketin' Don't Mix" commentary?

Those who drink excessively in public do it by choice. They're choosing to put their jobs at risk, alienate co-workers, and potentially lose business for the company, all for that extra taste of alcohol. The problem runs much deeper than one drunken episode.

Perhaps those who can't control their own behavior -- not only in regard to alcohol -- shouldn't be representatives of a firm to begin with.

I sure don't want to be "that girl", but I do enjoy watching a good trainwreck. Let it flow!

I couldn't agree with Alan more. I find it much better to be the only one with a milkshake rather than take the risk of losing my judgement.

I don't agree with Boress or Nance. They need to get off their high horses!

What if your client or prospect is a true lush and is peer pressuring you into doing things that you normally would not do?
