A FRESH NEW YEAR - A VIEW ON CHANGE

Back to blog homepage for: Possibilities For CPA Firm Management

A new year has arrived and the old year just made it's exit.

I am picturing Old Man (2010) with his wrinkled face and aging body shuffling off into obscurity and that tech-savvy, groovin’ cool, young dudette (2011) social-networking her way down the highway.

Think of Hugh Hefner and his new fiancé.  That should give you the picture!

While many believe that January is not the time for CPAs to be thinking about planning and making changes for the new year, I don’t agree. Start the year off right – don’t procrastinate until May (or later) when the year is half gone.

If nothing else, schedule a 3-hour partner meeting for early January and list your immediate, most-pressing issues.  Talk about each one (but don’t over-talk them!). Then record the commitments every owner will make to help remedy these challenges beginning immediately and as you work your way through busy season.

I keep looking at this picture and trying to come up with a catchy phrase to end this post.  I’ve decided to just say enjoy your New Years’ Day celebrations and have a prosperous 2011 filled with change and a youthful mindset no matter what your age.

"You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair."  Douglas MacArthur
