Polka music--the backbone of the annual Oktoberfest beer bash--has endured the worst fate imaginable by the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The Grammy Award for best polka album has been cut from the competition. I guess that the pinheads who run the Academy felt it was time to make this change and place this time and energy into categories that are perceived to be more “hip.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that by the year 2016 there will be 1.5 million accountants and auditors employed in the United States. It’s comforting to know that our industry is growing. Accounting is by no means going the way of hat stores, television repair shops or ice delivery wagons! Live long accounting!

Sometimes, though, we hear about cost-cutting measures that have short-term gains, but drag down morale and employee satisfaction in the long-term. One such company I heard about posts a monthly report ranking company travelers by their daily expenses while on the road. This seems a bit like treating employees like children. Your thoughts?
