Yesterday was opening day of Major League Baseball. Spring is finally in the air…flowers are blooming…days are longer…tax season is dwindling down.

Working together as a team, whether on the field or in the office, certainly helps get the job done. Having team spirit is one of the essential elements of success and performance. But what good is it without the emotional commitment of the people?

Team spirit is the feeling of working together as one to achieve a common goal. It helps get the business on the road to growth, pride and eventually, success.

You may be looking at the title and asking yourself….what the heck is Second Life? Trust me when I say you are not alone. When I first heard about Second Life, I wasn’t quite sure what it was all about, and I’m still a bit fuzzy on the details. Allow me to explain:

Second Life is a free online virtual world in which you become an avatar (a what?), and “live” in this world. The world is imagined and created by its residents. Basically you are interacting with real live people all over the world, and are represented by an avatar, which is your digital persona.

“Get involved…be rewarded” is our firm slogan. Our Marketing Manager coined this slogan a few months back, and it became part of our theme. What does this mean and why is it so important?

Getting involved - whether with communities, charities or clients - adds a level of personal dimension and value to your organization. Participation in local chambers, committees, networking, even giving a speech (for those of you who aren’t shy about public speaking) are all ways to be involved and make those connections.

So many books to read…..so little time to read them. The book I have just finished reading is “Performance3: Planning x People x Process” by L.

I just returned from the HCLS - Human Capital Learning Symposium - in Kansas City, MO with a plethora of ideas and take-aways to review and implement at our firm. The one constant message that resonated throughout the conference was….in these challenging economic times, where companies are looking for ways to trim the fat, training and development should not be on the chopping block.
