Pumpkins and Motivation

Dawn Brolin is my co-host on Radio Free QuickBooks, and we recently teamed up for a new project: SmallBizVcon.com - a virtual training conference to help get small businesses - no matter what industry.

The idea stems mostly from our participation in Tory Johnson's Spark & Hustle in the summer of 2012, as well as our participation in some other training conferences. We spoke to so many entrepreneurs and one of the most common messages was that they just didn't know where to start. They knew they could expand, grow, heck - start to take over the world! The problem was they either didn't know how to determine what they needed, and once they figured that out, how would they know what would fit that need.

Jump to end of November and we decide to put on our vcon, and we hand pick what we want to offer in terms of training. Dawn is a newly minted CPA, so year end taxes are a no brainer, and with the new Turbo Tax CPA Select program about to kick off, that was a no brainer. Me being and expert in QuickBooks Online and using UniData for hosting my non QBO clients, my session was a gimme as well. Woody Adams, the 3rd and most important part of RadioFreeQB.com, would do the payroll.

The product and service companies we invited to participate are those that we either use ourselves in our own business, or that we strongly encourage our clients and colleagues to use. They include Bill.com, BillQuick, Transaction Pro Importer, ScanWriter, Method CRM and Jen Puckett, web designer extraordinaire.

Not only do we want to teach small business owners about these options - tools that have saved Dawn, myself and our clients so much time (read: MONEY), but we want to help them actually get started using them right away. Attendees have a chance of winning $500 just for attending!

Then it came down to keynotes. We needed two great speakers - 2 days of training and 2 short but important keynotes to set the tone... Did I mention that Dawn's a multimedia star? Not just content to be heard, Dawn was a part of the Small Business Makeover in the fall of 2012 on MSNBC's Your Business and had a chance to pal around with author Mike Michalowicz. I recently read his latest book, The Pumpkin Plan, and I have to say... it's pretty dang good. As I'm reading it, I'm thinking: "This is really a simple idea, and brilliant! I do half of the things he's writing about, but I also sort of do them half-assed. I bet if I tried them all together like this, I could reach my goal of Supreme Global Empress even faster!"

Dawn asked him to do the keynote, and he'll be presenting the keynote on Day 2 of the VCon.

Our Day 1 keynote is Coach Jenn Lee. We met her on the Spark & Hustle tour and she has an amazing way of getting one to dig down deep and answer tough questions: Where do I want to go with my business? What are the steps I need to take to get there? What needs to be done to accomplish these steps? And then she makes you accountable for ALL OF IT.

There is still time to register, and we hope that if you can't join us, you'll pass along the information to someone that you think would benefit from this event. Dawn and I are very passionate about helping people power their business with technology. We are firm believers in the idea that businesses must get online, or get left behind.
