Beta Alpha Psi's annual meeting featured opportunities for performing community service, attending meetings, getting to know students and faculty from other schools, visiting with exhibitors, and a chance to win $200 from AccountingWEB!
The BAP meeting was attended by nearly 1,000 students, many of whom converged on Washington, D.C. on Thursday, August 10, for a day of community service. Projects included assisting at a homeless shelter, working with senior citizens, and helping out at the National Zoo.
Meetings began in earnest on Friday, August 11, when participants received a hint of the future of the accounting profession in a talk given by Robert Elliott, chairman of the AICPA.
Additional meetings included tips for passing the CPA exam, information about international assignments and studying abroad, strategies for getting along in a corporate environment, and information about the Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) certification offered by the AICPA.
A featured speaker was astronaut Jerry Linenger who shared his feelings about overcoming great odds to achieve success and confronting challenges.
