FASB Unveils ‘More Visual’ Technical Agenda Web Page

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has relaunched its technical agenda web page, which Chairman Russell Golden said will inform visitors at a glance on where any given FASB project stands, the steps it took to get there, and what is coming up.

The updated web page groups the FASB’s technical agenda into project “families” and offers a comprehensive timeline of activities for each project. Visitors can more easily determine the status of current projects, review documents and announcements from completed project stages, identify what steps lie ahead, and access additional project resources.

The web page is designed to accommodate a wide variety of users, including those who are familiar with the FASB and its standard-setting activities and those who are not.

“While this information was available on the site previously, the new plan presents it in a more visual, intuitive manner that brings stakeholders up-to-speed quickly and also provides click-through access to all the resources they might need,” Golden said in a written statement.

The technical agenda groupings, which reflect the FASB’s strategic standard-setting goals, include:

  • Framework
  • Recognition and measurement
  • Presentation and disclosure
  • Research
  • Post-issuance activities
  • An alphabetical listing of all projects

In addition, projects that originated with Private Company Council and Emerging Issues Task Force efforts are tagged as such. Links are included to sign up for project updates issued via RSS feed.

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board is working on a similar relaunch of its technical agenda web page, which will be completed in the near future.
