Aplos Software, LLC announced September 23 that Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites selected Aplos Software's Cloud nonprofit accounting software to manage the accounting of its member chapters. Using Aplos Oversight, Friends of Georgia State Parks will be able to oversee all the bookkeeping of its chapters and gain real-time insight into the organization's financial performance.
Friends of Georgia State Parks is a nonprofit organization that helps support the promotion and preservation of Georgia's state parks and historic sites with over fifty chapters throughout the state.
Friends of Georgia State Parks will be using Aplos Oversight, which is a software as a service (SaaS) financial management platform where a headquarters can oversee the individual bookkeeping of chapters. While each chapter manages its own accounting using Aplos Software's nonprofit accounting software, the central office is able to standardize accounting practices, increase internal controls, and have real-time auditing access to the bookkeeping.
Aplos Oversight also increased the financial reporting capabilities of Friends of Georgia State Parks with consolidated financial reporting of all chapters, in addition to in-depth data and reporting for the individual chapters.
Capital Edge Consulting, a nationwide consulting firm that specializes in helping federal government contractors solve complex business problems, announced the addition of corporate business strategy executive Richard Agopsowicz as the firm's newest managing director.
Agopsowicz brings more than forty years of experience in government procurement, with a focus on technology and operational program development, management, operations, competitive acquisition management, business capture, systems engineering design, information assurance, information operations/cyber development and operations, special technical operations, energy, health and human services, biotechnology and life sciences, information technology and telecommunications threat and vulnerability analysis, information systems security engineering, and facility security design to Capital Edge. He will be operating from the firm's new office in San Antonio, Texas.
Prior to joining Capital Edge, Agopsowicz spent more than ten years in government procurement consulting as a senior executive at a leading national consulting firm and thirty years with the Department of Defense.
CBIZ Tofias, part of the country's seventh-largest accounting provider, announces John Mulvaney, CPA, CFE, will lead its Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services (FLVS) Group. John has joined the Boston office as a director.
Mulvaney specializes in government and internal investigations as well as complex civil and criminal matters. He has served as a special agent with the FBI and the Special Inspector General's Office for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), where he oversaw SIGTARP's national criminal and civil investigative program. Before joining CBIZ Tofias, he served as a director in the forensic practice of an international accounting firm.
During his career, Mulvaney has investigated and managed significant complex investigations involving accounting fraud, securities fraud, insider trading, bank fraud, bribery, money laundering, RICO violations, health care fraud, and public corruption. In addition to numerous speaking engagements and presentations, he also has considerable experience in testifying in federal and state proceedings. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Merrimack College and attended the Executive Management Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
Cherry Bekaert LLP, one of the nation's largest accounting and consulting firms, is delighted to announce Cathie Stanton's selection to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA) State and Local Taxation (SALT) Technical Resource Panel.
Stanton's membership on the panel is for the AICPA's 2013-2014 volunteer service year. Beginning in October, she will participate in SALT Panel meetings, work on various assignments, and become active in developing and communicating AICPA positions on important SALT topics at state and federal levels. Recent actions from the SALT panel include submitting a letter to Congress concerning the Marketplace Fairness Act.

Voted by clients, in-house counsels, and peer reviews in the Euromoney Legal Media Group Expert Guide, Miesel is among three transfer pricing specialists from Baker Tilly International included in the 2013 Transfer Pricing Advisers Expert Guide.

Joseph Puglisi, CPA, joined Citrin Cooperman as a partner in the financial services practice, effective September 16. He is based in the firm's New York City headquarters.
Puglisi brings almost twenty years of experience providing audit, accounting, and business consulting services to hedge funds, funds of funds, venture capital funds, private equity funds, broker-dealers, general partners, and management companies.
His broad expertise extends to advising privately held companies on corporate finance transactions, business strategies and management, and due diligence. He has worked extensively with publicly held clients on all aspects of SEC reporting, initial public offerings, and reverse-merger transactions. Prior to joining Citrin Cooperman, Puglisi was a principal with accounting and advisory firm Rothstein Kass. Puglisi is a certified public accountant in New York and New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Public Accounting from Pace University.
Citrin Cooperman recently helped sponsor the 2nd Annual DelcoWAR Race for Victims' Rights 5K run/walk. The race on September 22 benefited Delaware County Women Against Rape, a private, nonprofit organization that offers community awareness programs and direct services to victims of sexual assaults.
The race took place at Rose Tree Park in Media and was kicked off by Jack Whelan, Delaware County District Attorney. Runners and attendees enjoyed refreshments, prizes, and balloon art by a children's entertainer. US Representative Pat Meehan also attended the fundraiser.

Gettry Marcus CPA, P.C., announced that Lee Ferber, CPA, was appointed president of the National CPA Health Care Advisors Association (HCAA) for the 2014 calendar year. This will be Ferber's fourth consecutive year in a leadership position with HCAA. Prior to being named president, he held the roles of vice president, treasurer, and secretary.
Ferber, a resident of Huntington, New York, is a partner with Gettry Marcus CPA, P.C., a top 200 firm nationally, with offices in Woodbury, Long Island, and New York City. A member of the firm since 1999, Ferber serves as partner-in-charge of the firm's business advisory group and cochair of its health care consulting group, where he provides accounting, tax, audit and consulting services to group practices, ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic and treatment facilities, urgent care centers, single and multi-specialty "super-groups," and other ancillary service providers.
In his role as president, Ferber will oversee efforts to provide educational and networking opportunities to 60 HCAA member firms, totaling over 120 individuals, who provide specialized accounting, tax, and consulting services to the health care industry.
Grant Thornton LLP admitted Darla Kerico and Cassy Nack as Professional Standards and Tax partners, respectively, and promoted Andre Nel to Audit managing director in the firm's Dallas office effective August 1. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted thirty new partners and principals and promoted twenty professionals to managing director.

She has nearly ten years of experience in the technical role and quality assurance role and has nearly fifteen years of experience providing financial statement audits at the local and national level. She works on difficult accounting, audit, quality assurance, and risk management matters. Her main industry experience is with financial institutions, consumer products, energy, state and local governments, and not-for-profit clients. Kerico is a certified public accountant in Texas and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Tarleton State University.
Nack joined the firm in 1997 and leads the Financial Services practice in Dallas. She has more than fifteen years of experience providing tax compliance and consulting services to public and private companies in a variety of industries, including hedge funds, private equity, and broker-dealers. She is experienced in leading multifunctional teams, including federal, state and local, and international tax resources focused on understanding an organization's needs and delivering on service and strategies that meet those needs. Nack is a CPA in Texas and received bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from the University of North Texas.
Nel joined Grant Thornton in 2005 after more than fifteen years in public accounting in South Africa. He has extensive experience in technical accounting matters, including presenting technical accounting standard updates to clients and their controller groups. He also reviews internal control and makes advisory comments on the improvement of internal control and financial reporting. He has experience in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, not-for-profit, technology, financial services, real estate, and retail. He is a CPA in Colorado and Texas. He completed studies at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (formerly known as the University of Port Elizabeth) in South Africa and, as a chartered accountant, maintains his membership of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Grant Thornton LLP admitted Mark Gibennus as Audit partner, Alan Millis as Business Advisory Services partner, and Jon Rausch as Corporate Strategic Federal Tax Services partner in the firm's Houston office effective August 1. The firm also promoted Amy Throm to Tax managing director.
Gibennus joined the firm in 2002 and has nearly fifteen years of experience in serving both privately held and publicly traded corporations and partnerships mainly in the energy industry. He is a member of the Houston office's Energy industry committee. Gibennus is a CPA in Texas and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and serves on the board of directors for the Petroleum Accountants Society of Houston. He received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan.
Millis joined Grant Thornton in 2005 and has more than twenty years of experience in business consulting and advisory services. He currently serves clients in the firm's business consulting and M&A practices, focusing on due diligence, post-merger integration, finance operations and process re-engineering, program management, and internal audit services. Millis is one of the leaders of the firm's Merger Integration Solution group. He has developed methodology and programs for executing merger integration, performance improvement, and internal and operational audit projects. He is a CPA in Texas and received master's and bachelor's degrees in accounting from the University of Mississippi.
Rausch joined the firm in 2011 and serves as the Central region leader for Grant Thornton's Corporate Strategic Federal Tax Services group. With nearly twenty years of experience in public accounting, he has deep expertise and knowledge in the Federal Tax Consulting area, including R&D, fixed asset, and accounting methods, among other areas. He has experience in a variety of different industries, including energy, utilities, manufacturing, consumer products, technology, software, and aerospace and defense. Rausch is a CPA in Missouri and Texas and received bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from the University of Missouri.
Throm joined Grant Thornton in 2005 and has more than fifteen years of federal and state tax experience with public and private clients in various industries, including the oil and gas and consumer products industries. She has extensive experience in the upstream oil and gas market. Throm is a CPA in Texas and received a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas A&M University.
KPMG LLP and its chairman and CEO John Veihmeyer were recognized September 25 for their corporate responsibility leadership by Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine, which has named Veihmeyer one of its Responsible CEO of the Year award recipients.
CR Magazine's annual awards are presented to CEOs across industries whose organizations visibly exceed standards in the areas of employee relations, environmental impact, human rights, philanthropy, and corporate responsibility practices. The 2013 award recipients will be honored at its Responsible CEO of the Year Awards Dinner taking place on October 9 in New York.
In addition to KPMG's Veihmeyer, the other recipients of the 2013 Responsible CEO of the Year award include:

One of KPMG's top corporate responsibility programs is KPMG's Family for Literacy (KFFL), which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. The Denver office of KPMG LLP, the US audit, tax, and advisory firm, has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Commercial Interior certification for its new office space from the US Green Building Council.
The LEED Green Building Rating System for Commercial Interiors is a set of performance standards for certifying a building's design and construction to promote healthy, durable, affordable, and environmentally sound practices in tenant space design and construction.
Continuing its long-standing commitment to Colorado's business community, KPMG relocated its Denver office to the Seventeenth Street Plaza location last October. KPMG selected this LEED-certified building and designed the new office space according to a comprehensive plan, which achieved the significant milestones needed to obtain LEED-CI certification.
Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) and the LBMC Family of Companies, one of the Southeast's largest accounting and business consulting firms, announced the promotions of three vital members of the shared services marketing department: Nicole Alford, Kara Allen, and Mindy Vail.
Alford was previously a marketing coordinator in the department and recently celebrated her fifth anniversary with LBMC. She has been promoted to marketing supervisor. In her newly expanded role, she facilitates the supervision of proposals, reporting, and a wide variety of special projects. Alford is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
Allen has been promoted to marketing supervisor with a focus on events and sponsorships. A Kentucky native and graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, she has been expanding her role and growing with LBMC for the past seven years. Her specialty includes servicing a variety of clients and industries in the LBMC Family of Companies, managing numerous projects with great efficiency.
Vail is now the online marketing specialist handling the social media presence and highlighting the vast array of services under the LBMC umbrella. Her extensive web design and social media expertise will be instrumental in her new role as she is responsible for integrating online marketing strategies, search engine optimization, and e-mail marketing. She is a graduate of Murray State University.
LBMC has added Jennifer Dyer Fitzpatrick in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
Fitzpatrick has joined the accounting firm in a staff position in the accounting and assurance services department where she will be working in the audit division in a variety of industries, including health care and manufacturing. She previously worked as a graduate assistant at Tennessee Tech University. Originally from Cookeville, Tennessee, she is a graduate of Tennessee Tech University where she received her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
Prager Metis CPAs, LLC, an independent, full-service public accounting and consulting firm with offices in the United States and London, welcomes Jack Brister as its newest partner. Brister will be a key member in the firm's International Tax Division, which provides a full range of tax planning, compliance, and consulting services for foreign companies, trusts, estates, and individuals. He will be based out of Prager Metis' eastside office in New York City.
Brister is a designated Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and a recognized authority on private client cross-border, foreign financial institution reporting, and international tax issues. He specializes in tax planning and compliance for international wealth structures, including foreign trusts, estates, and foundations, as well as cross-border tax issues affecting high-net-worth families and individuals, nonresident alien businesses, and foreign wealth structures with underlying entities. He has been widely published and is a featured speaker on international private client wealth tax matters and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) issues.
In 2013, Brister was selected as one of the top 100 US wealth advisors by the British publication Citywealth Magazine – a prestigious list compiled from nominations within the private wealth management sector and client-based recommendations. This marks the third time in four years that Brister has been named to the list.
Brister joins Prager Metis from MBAF CPAs, LLC. He has an MBA in finance and tax from Wagner College and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Central Washington University.
Rivet Software, an industry leader in financial reporting, announced a sweeping strategic restructuring plan to further Rivet's leadership position in the Microsoft Office-based Document, Disclosure, and SEC Compliance Management space.
Within the two-month period following the passing of Rivet's founder and CEO, Michael Rohan, the recently appointed acting CEO, Madelaine Rohan, has taken the reins. Rivet's product road map will continue to focus on its highly collaborative software as a service (SaaS) platform and its high-touch, scalable services model. However, the immediate focus of adding engineering resources to the current development teams and expanding its product line will take Rivet to the next level. Concurrently, Rivet's Crossfire platform combined with its client services will allow users to have greater collaboration and less dependency on the traditional financial compliance vendors.
Chris Debo has rejoined Schneider Downs & Co., Inc., one of the top sixty public accounting, tax, and business advisory services firms in the United States, as senior manager in charge of the Columbus, Ohio, office IT Audit Services within the Internal Audit and Risk Advisory Services Practice.
Debo most recently was the manager of professional services for a software company in New York City. Prior to that, he was the director of business intelligence for a multibillion-dollar corporation in Pittsburgh. Debo held a previous position at Schneider Downs as manager of the Columbus office Technology Advisors practice.
Debo has a broad background in all facets of IT, including operations, software development, systems implementations, data warehousing, Cloud computing, project management, and IT audit. His industry experience includes finance, health care, manufacturing, education, not-for-profit, government, retail, oil and gas, and automotive. In addition to his professional duties, Debo is an advocate for improving public education in America and has been involved in several charities, including New York City's PENCIL Partnership and Pittsburgh City Schools' Be a Sixth Grade Mentor program. Debo holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems and a Master of Accounting from the Ohio State University.
Stone Carlie is proud to welcome Melissa Gragg, CVA, CFE, as the newest member of the Valuation & Litigation Support Services Group. Gragg is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has over ten years of experience in providing expert testimony in divorce proceedings and personal injury cases, valuations for privately held businesses, and forensic investigations. Over the past three years, she has operated as a solo practitioner and is now combining her practice with Stone Carlie.
In her new role, Gragg conducts business valuations for tax, financial accounting, and mergers and acquisitions. She also provides litigation support services and expert witness testimony for marital dissolution, commercial litigation, business interruption claims, personal damage calculations, lost profits, and personal injury cases. She has also participated in fraud investigations for various privately held companies, governmental entities, and municipalities.
Tate & Tryon is pleased to announce that audit partner, Jeff Stefan, CPA, has been appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Not-for-Profit Expert Panel. The panel brings together twelve of the top experts specializing in the not-for-profit (NFP) industry in order to focus specifically on issues relevant to not-for-profits.
