The Louis Blanchard Accounting Endowment was established by Jerry and Lynn Mayfield and the Madison Charitable Foundation, Inc. Louis Blanchard came to SAU (then Southern State College) in 1956 as a professor of accounting with the notion that teaching was a temporary thing. He retired as chairman of the Department of Accounting in the 1990s with more than forty-two years of service and impact on generations of accounting students.

In 1998 Blanchard received the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants Lifetime Achievement Award and was the 1989 SAU Honor Professor, among other recognitions in his career at SAU.

Mayfield graduated cum laude in 1970 from SAU with a BBA in accounting and is recognized as a distinguished alumnus. He is currently a member of the SAU Foundation Board of Governors. Mayfield recently retired as CEO of Universal Pegasus, Inc., one of the largest gas pipelines in the United States.

Asked what motivated the establishment of the endowment, Mayfield said, "Louis Blanchard has been a great mentor to students who have come through the university. He has always taken an interest in the school and its students. You couldn't find better ambassadors than Louis and Martha Blanchard.”

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has announced the new appointments and positions to its 2012-2013 board of directors.

Gaylen R. Hansen, CPA, of Denver Colorado, acceded to the position of chair for 2012-2013. Previously, Hansen served as vice chair of the NASBA Board of Directors as well as chair of NASBA's Ethics Committee and Strategic Initiatives Committee. He is a former NASBA director at large and former member of NASBA's Global Strategies Committee, Regulatory Response Committee, Relations with Member Boards Committee, and the International Regulators Conference Committee.
 
As audit partner and director of quality assurance at Ehrhardt Keefe Steiner & Hottman (EKS&H), his experience spans over thirty years and includes an emphasis on SEC accounting and reporting. In these roles, he is responsible for formulating firm accounting and audit technical policy standards, including regulatory liaison, inspections and peer review, ethics, and independence.
 
Hansen is a former chair and member of the Colorado State Board of Accountancy. In addition to his service on the NASBA board, he is also a member of the AICPA's Professional Ethics Executive Committee and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board's Standing Advisory Group. In 2008, he served on the US Treasury's Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession.
 
Most recently, Hansen was appointed to the Consultative Advisory Group of both the international auditing and ethics boards of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
 
Carlos E. Johnson, CPA, EdD, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was elected as vice chair. Johnson is a NASBA director at large and chair of NASBA's Uniform Accountancy Act Committee as well as former Southwest regional director and former chair of NASBA's State Board Relevance and Effectiveness Committee, Legislative Support Committee, Audit Committee, and Substantial Equivalency Strike Force (Mobility Task Force). As a ten-year member of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board, he contributed three terms as chair and two terms as vice chair.
 
He has also served in various positions with the AICPA and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Johnson is president of Carlos E. Johnson, CPA, PLLC, having recently retired from his position as senior investment banker with BOSC, Inc., a subsidiary of BOK Financial Corp.
 
Douglas W. Skiles, CPA, of McCook, Nebraska, was appointed as central regional director. Skiles, who also serves as chair of the Nebraska Board of Public Accountancy, is a shareholder with McPherron Skiles & Loop, CPAs PC. In addition to serving on the NASBA Board, Skiles is also a member of NASBA's Education Committee. He brings an extensive background in taxation for individuals, corporations, partnerships, LLCs, estates, and trusts to the Board. He has also chaired the Nebraska Board's Education and Examination Committee; Educational Advisory Committee; and serves as chair on the Legislative Committee, which completed an extensive overhaul of Nebraska's Public Accountancy Act.
 
Don Aubrey, CPA, tax director for Rebar & Associates in Seattle, Washington, was elected as Pacific regional director. Currently, Aubrey is chair of the Washington State Board of Accountancy and member of NASBA's Administration and Finance and Relations with Member Boards committees. Aubrey is an active member and a past treasurer of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA), has served on the board of directors, and has been a member of the Finance Committee for over nine years.
 
Nicole Olson-Kasin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was elected as chair of NASBA's Executive Directors Committee and executive directors liaison to the NASBA Board of Directors for 2012-2013. Olson-Kasin has served the executive director of the South Dakota Board of Accountancy for the past four years. Prior to her position with the Board, she was a tax program representative with the South Dakota Department of Labor. Currently, she sits on NASBA's Executive Directors and Communications committees.

Rosen Seymour Shapss Martin & Company LLP announced that Steven Reisberg, CPA, CFE, has received the globally preferred Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Reisberg has successfully met the ACFE's character, experience, and education requirements for the CFE credential and has demonstrated knowledge in four areas critical to the fight against fraud: fraudulent financial transactions, criminology and ethics, legal elements of fraud, and fraud investigation.
 
Reisberg has over eight years of experience in public accounting and specializes in financial analysis and auditing for small business owners and public companies. He is skilled in advising business owners on how to best improve their operations and financial reporting. Reisberg holds a BS in accounting from Pennsylvania State University.

The BSA Software Alliance (BSA) announced that Oracle Corporation has joined BSA as a global advocacy member to help advance policies that promote technology innovation.

A Google search of accounting firms yields a surplus of websites stuck in the 90s. Except for the big few, most CPA firms don't invest much in their brands. Value provided, they believe, is offline - in person. But in today's digital world, that value needs to be carefully crafted and communicated online as well. 
 
Until now, SDDCO was no different. This sixty-year-old specialized firm developed its first website a decade ago as a basic tool of communication: here's what we do; here's how to reach us. Since then, nearly every other aspect of the firm had evolved. SDDCO supplemented core competencies in accounting and FinOp work with a vigorous list of regulatory compliance services and expanded the firm to six entities. In tandem, they augmented their talent, technology, and most internal procedures. As a result, SDDCO became a premier vertical solution provider to the finance industry. 
 
Their services evolved. Their business evolved. But the brand was stuck. So SDDCO took this rebrand challenge: Can we communicate to the world the intensity of our firm? 
 
SDDCO started with their market knowledge: The world of financial services is growing more complex. Next they infused their worth into their message: "SDDCO is support made simple." Then shifting to the website, they strengthened the logo and stripped out the clutter, opting for a look to convey values of client support and simplicity. Swapping a wide palette for graphite hues and old stock photos for massive glass towers delivered a more confident and focused identity to their financial market. Finally, as in the daily work, the polish was in the particulars. The development team spent months with web designers at Transfuture, LLC, ironing out every pixel to improve the user experience.
