The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) is pleased to announce that it has hired Barbara Van Allen as senior director of stakeholder relations. Van Allen joins the CAQ from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), where she served as senior vice president of marketing and communications. Van Allen reports directly to CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli.
Van Allen led the largest division of the MBA during a time of significant economic turbulence, during which she grew membership, reduced member turnover, and launched a major initiative to strengthen member engagement. She was responsible for strategic member and stakeholder relations, driving and positioning key thought leadership, and using data to strengthen critical related systems and processes.
Prior to joining the MBA, Van Allen was the chief marketing officer for Ability One / NISH, where she managed marketing, government affairs, communications, quality, and training. Van Allen previously served in leadership positions in corporate communications with Cushman & Wakefield and ITT Corporation, and as a legislative director in the US House of Representatives.
Van Allen leads the CAQ's Stakeholder Relations and Communications team, which has expanded with the recent addition of Linda Eddy. Eddy serves as the director of stakeholder relations, where she works to enhance efforts to promote stakeholder engagement, education, and expertise. Eddy comes to the CAQ from Freddie Mac, where she was the director of investor relations. "With a significant background in investor relations, Linda brings a new perspective and skill set to the CAQ's efforts to support and engage the investor, preparer, regulator, and academic communities," said Fornelli.
Michael Zyborowicz, CPA,
a director with accounting, tax, and business consulting firm Citrin Cooperman
in Philadelphia, was recognized as a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) by the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives.
Zyborowicz completed a comprehensive course of study in franchise management offered by the Institute, which is the academic branch of the International Franchise Association's Educational Foundation. The International Franchise Association (IFA) is the world's oldest and largest organization representing franchising worldwide. Zyborowicz, along with his fellow CFE recipients, were honored at the IFA's annual convention in Las Vegas, February 17-20.
A member of Citrin Cooperman Philadelphia's franchise committee, Zyborowicz has nearly ten years of experience providing franchisor and multiunit franchisee clients with general audit and business consulting services. Also, he regularly provides consultation on internal controls matters and financial statements preparation.
Nearly 1,500 franchise executives are enrolled or have received certification. More than 300 IFA-member companies currently have one or more executives enrolled in the program that provides benefits such as specialized knowledge, industry recognition, peer-level networking and professional standing. Candidates are required to complete a rigorous course of study to earn the CFE designation, including attending institute-sponsored educational seminars and workshops. The program enhances franchise professionals' understanding of the industry's fundamental and complex aspects.
Bolton has joined the firm as a staff member with the tax department's state and local tax services department. He brings valuable experience in tax specialties, including individual tax returns, corporate tax, partnerships, estates, and trusts. Originally from Smyrna, Tennessee, he is a business administration graduate of the Middle Tennessee State University with an accounting focus.

Mitchell has transferred to the Knoxville office after five years of service in the Nashville office. She is a tax manager working primarily with the wealth management services team specializing in tax planning and compliance for individuals, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses. Mitchell is a graduate of both the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Tennessee Tech University.

A native of Irmo, South Carolina, LaBrooy joins Scott and Company LLC from Lowrance Cooper & Company, a Columbia, South Carolina–based tax and accounting firm that combined with Scott and Company LLC in late 2012. He has more than three years of experience dealing with corporate and partnership taxation issues of auto dealerships, law firms, insurance agencies, and nonprofit entities as well as serving individual clients. LaBrooy is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.
