Abalos & Associates, PLLC has announced that Sandy Abalos, CPA, managing partner, attended the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW)'s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS graduation ceremony in Washington, DC, on July 23-24. IEEW is committed to empowering women to grow their businesses, pursue greater entrepreneurial ventures, and become active public policy advocates. The PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS program provides education, mentorship, and coaching to women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan and Rwanda, with the understanding that economically stable societies have a much greater capacity for peace. 

Abalos, a member of the IEEW board of directors, was joined at the graduation ceremony by Afghan Ambassador Eklil Ahmand Hakimi, Rwandan Ambassador James Kimonyo, and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues Melanne Verveer.

Briana J. Mullenax, CPA and senior manager in Tax Services, was elected president of the TSCPA Nashville Chapter, which includes twenty counties. Her eight plus years of public accounting experience include providing accounting and tax services for clients in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, food service, construction, health care, nonprofit organizations, and financial institutions. Mullenax is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where she received her BS in accounting.
 
Mason Barrick, CPA and senior manager in the LBMC tax division, is the chair of the TSCPA Tennessee State Tax Committee. Barrick has diversified experience with a variety of industries, including thirty-four years of experience in state taxation, particularly sales tax and corporate income tax. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BS in business administration and a major in accounting.
 
Ben M. Alexander, CPA, CSEP and tax manager in the Knoxville office, is a past president of the TSCPA Knoxville Chapter and sits on the advisory council. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of TSCPA's Educational and Memorial Foundation. Alexander is experienced in estate, trust, and gift taxation and has diversified accounting and tax experience in various industries, including manufactured mobile homes and retail travel centers. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he earned a Master of Accountancy and a bachelor's degree in business administration. 
 
M. David Haddock, Jr., CPA and LBMC's director of training, was recently elected chairman of the board for the TSCPA. He has an MS degree and a business administration undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Haddock completed his Doctor of Education in Administration of Higher Education at Auburn University.
 
Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) is proud to recognize Mark Blackburn, CPA, partner in the Accounting and Assurance Services Division, for his appointment to the Executive Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center. The Center is a voluntary membership organization for firms that perform, or are interested in performing, ERISA employee benefit plan audits. The mission of the Center is to help CPAs meet the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex area. 
 
Blackburn leads LBMC's employee benefit audit practice and has more than eighteen years of plan audit experience. His experience includes defined contribution, defined benefit and health and welfare plan audits; both limited-scope and full-scope audits for publicly traded and privately held businesses. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama, with both a BS in business administration and a Master of Accountancy.
 
Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) has added Brooke Mullican and Katherine Givens in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
 
Mullican joined the accounting firm in a staff position in the risk services department. She earned a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and is currently pursuing a master's in information security from Lewis University. She is a Certified Ethical Hacker and has received the CompTIA Security+ Certification. Mullican is an active member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and Women in Technology of Tennessee (WITT). With the increasing demand for securing information and the overall growth of risk services at LBMC, she is a valuable addition to the LBMC team.
 
Givens has joined the accounting firm in a staff position in the family office department. She previously worked as a tax intern at Faulkner, Mackle & Cochran, PC. In her new role, she will be working with high-wealth individuals and families, along with their businesses, assisting with their day-to-day financial affairs, allowing them to spend time on things most important to them. Givens is a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
 
LBMC Employment Partners, LLC, a member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, has added Kimberly Kosier in its Knoxville office and April Johnson in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
 
Kosier joins as an HR assistant. She will provide assistance to clients as well as internal support in the area of human resource consulting. She previously served as the front office coordinator for the Knoxville office for the past seven years. 
 
Johnston has joined as an HR manager. She brings excellent customer service skills to the team as demonstrated in her previous job as HR coordinator at Meharry Medical College. In her new role, she will be assisting clients with various HR solutions and employee-related matters, such as regulatory compliance, benefits administration, and personnel management. Johnston is a graduate of Lipscomb University with a bachelor's degree in communications. 
 
LBMC Managed Security Services, LLC, a member of the LBMC (Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC) Family of Companies, has added Ashley Barton in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.
 
Barton joins the team in a business development position. His previous experience working with the health care and legal industries as well as Fortune 500 companies will further enable him to work closely with clients, providing solutions to secure and safeguard their technology infrastructure. Barton previously worked for Vital Records Control in a vice president position. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri in St. Louis.

The CPA firm of Leone, McDonnell & Roberts Professional Association recently announced the promotions of Angela Zakon, CPA; Jason Gaskell, CPA; Christopher McKay, CPA; and Isaiah Warren.
 
Zakon, formerly a senior accountant, joined the firm in 2008. As a supervisor, she will be the go-to professional for her clients in the areas of accounting, tax, internal controls, and other related areas. Specifically, Zakon will be providing comprehensive audit, review and compilation services for nonprofit and for-profit clients; tax planning and preparation services for individuals, partnerships, corporations, homeowners associations, and nonprofit organizations; and lastly, bookkeeping and payroll support. Outside of her client responsibilities, she will be presenting training classes at local organizations and supervising, training, scheduling and evaluating staff. Zakon received her BS in accountancy from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated cum laude. 
 
Gaskell, formerly an in-charge accountant, joined the firm in 2009. In his new role as senior accountant, he is responsible for supervising and completing review and audit client engagements as well as tax preparation for various business entities and individuals. He graduated cum laude from the University of New Hampshire where he received his BS in business administration with a concentration in accounting and finance. 
 
McKay joined the firm in 2009. Previously an in-charge accountant, he now serves as a senior accountant. In addition to his internal supervising and training responsibilities, McKay will be assisting in the completion of client financial statements, tax returns and other special project services. He graduated cum laude from the University of New Hampshire earning a BS in business administration with a concentration in accounting. 
 
Warren joined the team in 2011. Previously a staff accountant, he now serves as an in-charge accountant. In his new position, Warren will be providing audit and tax services to the firm's clients. In addition, he will help with training the firm's staff accountants. Warren earned his Master of Science in Accounting and a BS in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of New Hampshire. Warren graduated magna cum laude in his undergraduate program.

Nexia International announced August 20 that the recently merged top twenty US accountancy firm combining J.H. Cohn LLP and Reznick Group has confirmed its membership of the global network, strengthening Nexia International's presence in the United States and elevating it to the top ten global accounting networks. 
 
The two firms combined to create the eleventh largest US accounting firm, with revenues of $450 million in the United States and 2,000 staff in twenty-five offices. The merger has allowed both J.H. Cohn and Reznick Group to extend their US presence, with virtually no geographical overlap.

Previously a senior manager, Reynolds has been a member of the ParenteBeard team for more than seventeen years. He is the accounting and audit director for the firm's Northern Pennsylvania region. His experience includes audits, reviews, compilations, and tax services, with a service line focus in commercial enterprises. 
 
He is a graduate of LEAP (Leadership, Entrepreneurialism, and Achievement at ParenteBeard), the firm's unique three-year leadership development program. Reynolds earned a BS in accounting from the University of Scranton.
