Armanino LLP, the accounting and business consulting firm and a leading provider of integrated audit, tax, consulting services, and technology solutions, announced a strategic partnership with Continental Stock Transfer & Trust. The two firms will partner to offer a full spectrum of equity management and stock issuance and shareholder recordkeeping services for pre-IPO companies.
Armanino's Equity Management Solutions practice provides technical accounting expertise along with Cloud software implementations and process reengineering for a wide variety of privately held and public companies. Continental offers a full array of stock transfer services to small and midsize emerging and growth companies.
With the partnership, Armanino will be able to offer transfer agent services as an integrated part of its full equity outsourcing offering. Continental will utilize Armanino as its private company equity administration partner to provide outsourced administration, accounting, consulting, and other pre-IPO services. Together, and by utilizing the EASi software solution, the companies offer an end-to-end solution for private companies from start-up to through the IPO process and beyond.
Armanino provides equity consulting and stock option administration services for year-end, quarter-end or monthly reporting, as well as company transactions, award modifications and Initial Public Offerings. On an outsourced basis, Armanino offers service packages tailored to the needs of growing companies, from automated administration and tracking of awards with EASi to quarterly and annual reporting and technical accounting support.
A.T. LOCKE, which provides accounting services, business analysis, and financial and strategic guidance to emerging and midsized organizations, has added professionals Sean Kurtz and Ryan LaPierre to the firm's rapidly growing team.
Kurtz began his professional career in public accounting where he worked with a variety of individual and corporate clients across a wide range of industries. He subsequently worked at a major national banking organization before joining A.T. LOCKE. He holds a BS degree in accounting from Palm Beach Atlantic University. As an accounting specialist, Kurtz will work with a variety of A.T. LOCKE clients across the Upstate from the firm's Greenville headquarters.
LaPierre joins A.T. LOCKE after working for nearly six years with a regional accounting firm where he provided accounting, tax, and audit services to individuals and organizations across industries, including automotive, energy, and not-for-profit. A graduate of Bob Jones University, he holds a BS degree in accounting and is a CPA. LaPierre will serve A.T. LOCKE clients as an accounting analyst, providing accounting and analytical support to help clients manage the profitable growth of their organizations.
CohnReznick LLP's Baltimore and Bethesda offices have been honored with the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility in the Maryland category. The award recognizes the firm's use of flexibility and other aspects of workplace effectiveness as a workplace strategy to increase business and employee success.

Baltimore's CPA and wealth management firm Glass Jacobson announced Brett Newberger, CPA, as the company's newest partner, helping to lead the firm's accounting ventures and lend his expertise to an expanding client base.
Newberger has been with Glass Jacobson since November 2001 and has more than twenty years' combined experience in public accounting and private industry. He is a trusted advisor for clients, serving as a business consultant with specific niche industries, including manufacturing, distribution, professional services, technology, and not-for-profit. Throughout his career in public accounting, he has proven experience in preparing financial statement audits, reviews and compilations, along with corporate and individual tax planning and preparation. Newberger is also qualified to be a peer reviewer under the AICPA's Peer Review Program, helping other firms achieve their accounting practice goals and enhance their quality under the profession's self-regulatory efforts. Newberger received his bachelor's degree in accounting from University of Baltimore.
Grant Thornton LLP admitted Edward Miller as audit partner and Steven Winter as tax partner in the firm's New York office effective August 1. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted thirty new partners and principals.

Miller joined Grant Thornton in 2002 and has a wide variety of experience serving clients in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors. He is a member of Grant Thornton's National Not-for-Profit Leadership Team. He is a certified public accountant in New York and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from State University of New York at Albany.
Winter joined the firm in 2004 and has devoted a majority of his time to serving the financial services industry. He has both private and public company experience specializing in providing professional tax services to hedge funds, private equity funds, broker-dealers, asset managers, investment partnerships, and corporations. Winter has directed and managed tax compliance work, tax strategy consulting, and ASC 740 consulting projects. He is a certified public accountant in New York and received a master's of business administration degree and a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting from Pace University.
Grant Thornton LLP named Jacqueline Akerblom as the firm's West region managing partner effective August 1. Akerblom, who succeeds Joel Anik in the role, will be responsible for all operations, including client service and professional matters for eleven offices in the western United States. She will also continue to lead the firm's Southern California practice as the office managing partner.
Akerblom joined Grant Thornton in 1989 as an audit manager in the firm's Los Angeles office. Prior to becoming the office managing partner in 2012, she served as a technology audit partner and International Business Center director for the firm's San Francisco and San Jose offices. She was the national managing partner of Women's Initiatives and Programs for Grant Thornton from 2007 to 2011, during which time the firm saw the number of women partners increase by 197 percent. In 2010, Akerblom was elected to Grant Thornton's Partnership Board, and is currently serving a three-year term. She spent nearly four years in the firm's London office serving as an advisor to US and European companies on cross-border transactions. She is a certified public accountant in California and received a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting from the University of San Diego.
Grant Thornton LLP admitted David Sites as International Tax Services partner and David Tyler as Healthcare Advisory Services principal in the firm's Atlanta office effective August 1.
Sites joined Grant Thornton in 2002 and has spent his entire career with the firm. He has served a wide array of companies in various industries, including manufacturing, technology, and retail. He has worked on numerous consulting projects, including cross-border planning and structuring, repatriation planning, foreign tax credit planning, and industry-specific research on a wide variety of issues involving federal and international tax. Sites has worked with US-based multinationals, foreign-owned inbound US corporations, closely held businesses, and high-net worth individuals. He is a certified public accountant in North Carolina and Georgia and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Tyler joined the firm in 2011 and leads the national Managed Care practice and the Southeast Health Care Advisory practice. With nearly twenty years of experience, primarily in the healthcare industry, his areas of expertise include provider strategy, revenue cycle, managed care, finance, mergers and acquisitions, and payer operations. He has performed various operational and financial projects for commercial and Medicare and Medicaid health plans, including affiliate company pricing analyses, operational improvement, and business intelligence and analytics assessments. He received a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Georgia.
Gross, Mendelsohn & Associates, P.A. is pleased to announce that Medley McGuire joined its Technology Solutions Group as an account executive. McGuire graduated from University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree. She has five years of experience in sales.

This team consists of dedicated professionals with comprehensive experience that includes: valuations of companies; intangible assets; compensation arrangements for transactions and regulatory compliance purposes; and expert witness testimony regarding economic damages in disputes arising from breach of contract, unfair competition, infringement of intellectual property, fraud, and family law.
Womack concentrates his practice in family law litigation and valuation matters involving a variety of industries. He assists estate planning attorneys in federal and state valuation matters; family law attorneys in divorce matters (including business valuation, forensic accounting, division of marital estate, etc.); and small business owners in the potential sale of their businesses. He is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration.
On August 13, 2013, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA) announced the winners of its annual Women to Watch Awards. Each year, the MSCPA recognizes women for their achievements in the accounting profession, leadership qualities, and contributions to their communities. Awards are presented in two categories: Experienced Leaders (more than fifteen years of experience), and Emerging Leaders (fewer than fifteen years of experience).

Only six months after announcing the formation of Prager Metis CPAs, LLC, which is the result of a merger between two long-standing firms Prager and Fenton LLP and Metis Group LLC, the firm is proud to announce its new image – complete with a new logo, tagline, and an exceptional positioning statement, which will guide the firm going forward.
Its logo is a symbol of two forces – one orange, the other gray – representing two strong entities coming together as one. Its tagline is "Your World. Worth More."
Keeping true to form, the Prager Metis team made the new branding procedure a collaborative effort. The firm's comanaging partners, Glenn Friedman and David Neste, developed an eleven-member committee representing a good model of the firm. RubinBrown recently promoted CPAs Andrew Bardot, Hannah Castellano, and Renita Duncan to manager. John Herber, CPA, managing partner, made the announcement.
A member of RubinBrown's Manufacturing and Distribution Services Group, Bardot provides assurance and benefit plan audit services to clients. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington University and his master's degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
Castellano serves as a manager in RubinBrown's Assurance Services Group and works with clients in a variety of industries, including hospitality and gaming, life sciences, colleges and universities, manufacturing and distribution, and not-for-profit. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Smart Devine, the full-service accounting, tax, and advisory firm, announced that Douglas W. Nakajima has joined the firm as a managing director in the Tax Consulting practice. He will focus on expanding Smart Devine's domestic and international tax, restructuring, and transaction advisory services.
Nakajima has over thirty years of experience in the public and private sectors, advising his US and foreign client base of multinational manufacturing, service, and technology businesses on a diverse range of tax issues and strategies. He has advised clients on the tax treatment of domestic and cross-border transactions, inbound and outbound business expansion strategies, domestic and cross-border acquisitions, dispositions and reorganizations, intercompany transfer pricing analysis, documentation and audit defense, treaty interpretation, and repatriation planning. Nakajima has worked extensively with tax advisors in foreign countries to develop global structures that minimize US and foreign tax exposures, and in this role, has forged effective working relationships with key professionals throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Rim.
Nakajima holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor and Master of Laws (Taxation) from the Villanova University School of Law. He is an attorney admitted to practice in Pennsylvania.

Kara H. Hoon, CPA, was promoted to manager. Hoon provides audit, review, and compilation services in addition to preparing federal, state, and local tax returns. She chairs the firm's nonprofit group and serves clients in the manufacturing, real estate, construction, restaurants, and health care industries. Hoon graduated magna cum laude from Tiffin University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a major in accounting.
Alicia M. Reiss was promoted to a level II staff accountant. She works with a variety of clients preparing both individual and business returns as well as performing audits, reviews, and compilations. Reiss is part of the firm's financial planning and construction groups as well as a member of the technology committee. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from Kent State University.

Collemi will be joining the firm as a director in their Assurance Practice, as a member of the Technical Resource Group. Collemi possesses over eighteen years of experience in corporate governance and risk management matters impacting the US public accounting profession. He specializes in US and international auditing and quality control standards, independence, and ethics as well as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards Codification (GAAP).
During his career, Collemi has held positions at the Division of Corporation Finance of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the SEC Practice Section (SECPS) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as well as at several international public accounting firms. While with the AICPA, he served as liaison to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), assisting in the creation of global peer review standards.
