Feb 26th 2010
IGAF Worldwide and its member firm Svindal Leidland Myhrer & Co. AS will long have reason to celebrate the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Over the last several days, firm partner Bjorn O. Svindal watched jubilantly as his son, Aksel Lund Svindal, skiied his way into the record books with no less than three medals for his home country of Norway.
On February 15, Aksel Lund Svindal won Silver in the Men’s Downhill, only seven hundredths of a second behind Switzerland’s Didier Defago. On February 19, he took a decisive gold in the Men’s Super G, besting Americans Bode Miller and Andrew Weibrecht, and he rounded out his trio of medals on February 23 by taking Bronze in the Men’s Giant Slalom. He will attempt to medal again in the Men’s Slalom on Saturday, February 27.
Aksel Lund Svindal’s success in this Olympic Games is made even more poignant because it is a majestic comeback following a crash in 2007 that threatened to remove him from the sport. In that accident, he suffered multiple facial fractures, injuries to his ribs and back and an 8-inch deep laceration in the abdominal region. However, he was planning his comeback to the sport even from his hospital bed – and he began competing again in 2008. He was recognized in January 2009 by the Norwegian Sports Gala as Role Model of the Year for his determination and positive attitude during his return to the sport.
In addition to his Olympic medals, Aksel has won five World Championship medals, four World Cup discipline titles (in Combined, Super G and Giant Slalom), and 13 World Cup races.
Aksel’s father, Bjorn, is well known as his son’s biggest fan, and he attends most of his races. The NBC official Olympics Web site features a biography of Aksel and a video interview with Bjorn, including footage that shows Bjorn watching Aksel ski to gold.
Svindal Leidland Myhrer & Co. AS has been an active and valued member of IGAF Worldwide since 1996.
