Chicago-based Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd, recently presented Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network) with a check for $50,000 at the organization's Chicago headquarters.
Several members of Grant Thornton's leadership team – including the firm's CEO Edward Nusbaum and Midwest Region Managing Partner Mike Hall – were in attendance to present the check to Feeding America's President and CEO, Vicki Escarra. The donation was organized by Grant Thornton's partners on behalf of their clients in lieu of holiday cards and gifts.
"In a downturn of this magnitude, need is everywhere," said Nusbaum. "Few needs are more basic and immediate than hunger. Although all businesses are being challenged, not-for-profits are often hit the hardest. Because Feeding America is a network of 200 food banks in the U.S., our donation has the capacity to reach many communities in which Grant Thornton employees and our clients live and work. We want to honor the trust and confidence of our clients with a holiday gift that will feed the hungry. No one should go hungry in America."
